I corrected your blooper about the Fed tax in your original reply. Just so you are N. Theknow about that. :>)
What really gets me is that the states tack on their sales tax (Here in California it is anywhere between 6.5 to 8.5%) on to the price of gas, including the fed and other state taxes.
That is patently unfair, and should be (maybe it is?) illegal.
I don't think it is fair or right or lawful to charge us a tax on a tax.
So in your illustration purchasers pay a 5% tax on 42 cents of other taxes!
Where is the law that says that states and fed gov can tax us on taxes????
