Aside from the fact that he was wearing it instead of waving it, he was even wearing it backwards, as it would be viewed in retreat.
The blue field of stars should always be on the left. When it is displayed on the right, it signifies retreat.
It's too bad they stopped teaching flag etiquette in schools.

Depending on which side of the flag you're standing, the blue will be on the left or right. That's why on some flight suits, the flag patch, depending on which arm it's on, always has the blue toward the front. Got a reference?

The fact that he was wearing it "in retreat" means nothing to most people, all they saw was an entertainer who was proud to display the American flag. Rare as that is, it is shooting ourselves in the foot to complain that he violated "flag etiquette" while being patriotic. I am going by pictures only, I took a pizza break during the halftime show, so if he did something deliberately disrespectful of the flag, that is a different story.
