It's your preference for style over substance that puts his kind in the White House. I didn't notice anyone expressing a preference for style OVER substance. I noticed someone expressly stating that while the content was OK, they had some difficulty with the presentation style. You think that's out of bounds? For a guy who makes his living in public speaking?
Grow up.
You first. Seriously, get a grip on reality. Alan Keyes has a very bombastic, verbose, pompous, self-righteous style that turns some people off. I see nothing wrong with someone discussing that fact with others who may have encountered him.

I saw Dr. Keyes deliver this speech Saturday morning at CPAC and I could swear I was in church! That is his style...part statesman, part preacher. I'll tell ya, he had more than one RINO squirming in that hall!

Anybody else have this reaction to Keyes?I've never seen Keyes speak in person, but he had a short-lived TV show on MSNBC a while back, and he was the most articulate spokesperson for conservatism I've ever heard. Idiosyncratic? yes. "Nutball?" -- not even close.

...Alan Keyes has a very bombastic...Horse hockey, Huck.
What happens is, Keyes' points make RINOs restless. They don't have the ammunition or the intellectual capacity to address the points he makes, so they start in with the nitpicking about his delivery.

...what an amazing speech!...They're all amazing, from this bloke.
Seamole, can you think of a time when Keyes' demand for conservative principle has been more needed? I just hope the GOP are listening.

They don't have the ammunition or the intellectual capacity to address the points he makes, so they start in with the nitpicking about his delivery. Except that that's clearly not what the poster here (I forget his screenname) expressed. Not only did the content not make him restless, he said he responded favorably to the written text of the speech. That alone appears to blow your "theory" out of the water. What he said was that the demeanor and style of Keyes makes him think the guy is a little weird--I am paraphrasing, but that's how I took it. And I happen to agree.

Proud to have voted for the man, and to be from one of the two states he received the most votes in. Idaho. Alaska I believe was the other.

..what he said was that the demeanor and style of Keyes makes him think the guy is a little weird... A 'little weird'? No. He said Dr. Keyes was a 'nutball.'
But I appreciate your clumsy attempt at backpedalling. There was a thread posted here years ago, Dr Keyes on his radio show, dealing with a soccer mom Clintonista in the most skilful way imagineable. If only I had it bookmarked, I'd post it and demand an apology from you and that other pickypants. Oh, where's CaL, when you need her?

Backpedaling? From what someone else said? No, I am not backpedaling. I think Keyes' self righteousness is the reason why he is so ineffective. And I am listening to the speech right now, and he does sound like a nutcase. So there.

I agree, assuming you mean Bloomberg-style 'effectiveness.' Maybe when your kind matures beyond the need for candidates with the personality of a game show host, Keyes' time will come? Ronald Reagan was effective and conservative without being self-righteous. In fact, you seem to suffer from a bit of the disease yourself. Your retarded little insults ("your kind", "grow up") serve only to repel people away from you and whatever point you hoped to make. Keyes time has come. When you need a bombastic, self-righteous speaker to give a fiery speech, delivered as pompously as possible, Keyes is your man. When you want someone who may be able to persuade, deal, and deliver on real conservative change, look elsewhere.

I'm a Keyes 2004 guy, Huck. Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who could actually walk the walk? So you're not voting for GWB? Have you made up your mind on that? As far as wouldn't it be nice, there's lots of things that would be nice, BtA. Shall we make a list? Or maybe we should focus on reality?

Hey, after CFR, the AWB, Kwanzaa, sitting out the Ten Commandments debacle, the NEA grant, the seniors drugs farce, I am looking elsewhere. Elsewhere, than President Bush, and the current GOP leadership. Matter of fact, it's another mark against the President, that he hasn't found a place for Dr Keyes in DC.

I went to a conference a couple of years ago where Alan Keyes was the Keynote Speaker. I arrived early because my trip was much shorter than I expected. I was about the fifth person there (eventually there were 350 in the audience).
I sat near the front and within a few minutes Alan came in and asked me if the seat next to me was taken. I said no and he sat down. Then I recognized him and introduced myself.
We spoke one-on-one for about 15 minutes before one of the organizers came over and escorted him to the podium.
My discussion with him was enjoyable and intellectually stimulating. He made me feel at ease. After the talk, I got his book "Masters of the Dream" and also enjoyed it. I suspect that not many of the Negro "Leaders" have read it.
When I listen to a talk, sometimes I close my eyes and not only hear, but listen. There is a distinction! I have a friend who taught me that a long time ago and I find it very useful because I am totally focused on what is being said. By the way my friend is blind!

"there are times when words are not sufficient."That's it exactly!! Ambassador Keyes always renders me utterly speechless. ;-)
