Fiorina warned against the growing protectionist backlash, saying the only alternative to losing jobs overseas was to make a national decision to stay ahead of foreign competitors by improving grade-school education, doubling federal spending on basic research and forming a national broadband policy, as Japan and Korea have done.

Well... then lets do it. The alternative is a weakened America.

education is not the problem, who do you think created all of these industries that carly and barrett are busy packing up and sending to india and china? american engineers did, so how all of a sudden can we be "stupid" and in need of government funding?

This is bossspeak- to slam the education and abilities of the workers they are about to make redundant. It shifts the blame to the 'lazy American' workers and makes it seem like they deserve their fate. It sounds much nicer than the truth which is to say that HP is taking advantage of state provided slave labor workforce in China and their gov't subsidized investments. (In case you think I exaggerate about slave labor, recall that 1,000 striking miners were killed by troops in China).
