Sounds like he stepped in quite the pile. Too bad he was speeding and all, otherwise his evening would have been rather uncomplicated.

Without the support of Freeper donations, Free Republic would go belly-up, leaving guys like The French Gynecologist to be unopposed. And we can't have that!

From reading the thread I think this stands out... So here we have a guy with a car full of weapons in a state that has unresolved sniper shootings. I can see where Ohio might be a touch sensitive about that and more than likely they're checking the guns for balistics. But even if this guy isn't the sniper (and in all likelyhood he wasn't), he was caught red handed in a state that doesn't allow concealed handguns and that's a major nono. I would even hazard a guess that this guy had no concealed handgun license in ANY state because the traning you get (at least in Texas) is very good at impressing upon you the severity of not doing what this guy did.

A "car full" doesn't even begin to describe it. Here's a list of this feller's rolling arsenal (from the story in the link):

Two semiautomatic pistol magazines in a belt holder on the front of the suspect's pants
Loaded .40-caliber handgun
Loaded .380-caliber handgun
An additional loaded magazine
7 knives
2 canisters of mace
Handcuff key
Machete
Several swords
.308-caliber assault type rifle
About 1,000 rounds of assorted ammunition

I'd love to have seen his gun cabinets at home.

Your title should have read:

2 handguns and a rifle? That's it? Only a 1,000 rounds? That only sounds like a lot if you've never gone shooting before.

I guess the swords were for field-dressing the deer :) Seriously, you're right and I've carried that many weapons on hunting trips myself. But in combination with the other items, it seemed a bit overkillish.

Too bad he was in Ohio. As long as he did not have the loaded firearms inside city limits, he would have been completely fine in Idaho. We only need a CCW if we carry inside a city or lumber/mining camp.

There is a reason I live in Idaho rather than some other state with unconstitutional prohibitions on simple possession of arms.

I hear you. Just once I'd love to drive my pickup with the rifle rack into Taxachusetts and watch the citizenry gape and point.

The guy should do jail time. Anyone carrying only one extra magazine is a disgrace.

The speeding ticket would only set him back $53 in Idaho as well. I've taken significantly more firearms and ammo to my local range. The whole situation sounds ridiculous.

A .308 to hunt deer? REAL hunters can knock down a 14-pointer with a .22 Hornet and field-dress it with a Swiss Army knife :)

Personally I prefer to run them down and tear the raw flesh from the pulsing flanks of my prey with my teeth. If it was good enough for Mom it's good enough for me.

No, that's a standard load for me when I go to the range or on a hunting trip. 2 handguns and 1 rifle with the swords, mace, and the other stuff mentioned in the article are an arsenal. And, those weapons carried loaded in a state where there is no concealed carry is allowed AND the guy is speeding is just stupid.
