INCREASINGLY nervous New York Democrats, fearful they'll be on the outs if Howard Dean becomes their presidential nominee, are working on a secret "peace plan" to present to the candidate.

Party insiders told The Post that leading Democrats - including Hillary Rodham Clinton, state Party Chairman Herman "Denny" Farrell, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Attorney General Eliot Spitzer - have been discussing a plan to send a "unified delegation" to negotiate with Dean if he becomes the party nominee.

The Clintons are not that stupid. They want to bury Dean not help him become President. Hillary's not going want to see her presidential ambitions die with a Dean victory in November.

New Yorkers...fear that a key Dean New York political operative...Ethan Geto...harbors deep-seated grudges against some Democratic leaders, and may try to use his influence with the former Vermont governor for revenge.
