Edited on 05/26/2004 5:18:13 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

December 31, 2003 -- EVEN if terrorists attack our homeland before the stroke of midnight, 2003 will still have been a year of remarkable progress on every front in the global War on Terror - and the greatest year for freedom since the Soviet Union's collapse.

President Bush, freedom's great crusader

Now there's a line that needs to be repeated over and over again followed by this.......Their (terrorists) last, desperate hope will be to hit us so hard that we elect a coward in place of a hero.

There are 7 of those cowards running with another appeaser in the wings; the junior senator from New York.

Excellent editorial. Thanks for the ping.

2003 was only bad for Democrats. Let's hope 2004 is even worse for both the Democrats and terrorists.

* Most vitally for Americans, our government kept our country remarkably safe.

Given the sometimes notorious difficulty certain "sheriffs" have seemed to display in telling their backside from first base, (remember white man in a white van?) I'd give 99.99% of the credit to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. That's what reminded the lunatic organizations that there was a reason almost nobody had dared to attack the continental USA for decades. Will these lunatics come back at us in mutant form like a difficult cancer after the first seemingly victorious rounds of chemo and radiation? Who knows.

Bump!

Politically motivated critics charge that the War on Terror has been a failure, despite the obvious proof to the contrary: Our enemies have been unable to harm our homeland. And while we will be struck again eventually - no defense is perfect - every day of safety is a victory.

Wonderful post, kattracks!!!!

* Our president had the sound instincts to realize that you can't treat the deep cancer of terrorism with a topical salve. Apprehending terrorists isn't enough. Meaningful treatment of this long-untended disease requires radical surgery and great risk.

I'm so glad this man is in office! He has stayed the course through adversity.

Bookmarked. Thanks for posting this. I sent it to my son in the Persian Gulf, and to one of my sisters in Texas.

We need to be reminded frequently of our successes, and where we stand in this major battle.

If we loose the war on terror, our economy, our protection of the environment, whether or not God is included in our Pledge of Allegiance or any public forum...all these things that seem so important today, will cease to matter.

Good morning. What are you doing up so early? I hope it's not the back.

It's precisely because of the back. The pain killers I'm on have really whacked out my sleeping pattern.
