WASHINGTON -- Some centrist Democrats may fret about front-runner Howard Dean's ability to match up to President Bush in a general election, but his college transcript sure could.
Bush, who graduated from Yale University in 1968, had a less-than-stellar record, with what the president described as "gentleman's Cs." Dean's transcript shows the political science major sailing through a slight sophomore slump to earn mostly high marks his last two years.
...
The transcript shows Howard Brush Dean III with a Park Avenue address and a course load reflective of those antiestablishment years. Dean took more than one class on Marxism and studied the "History of Soviet Union," "Soviet Foreign Policy," "International Communism" and "Chinese Politics."

Let's keep some things in mind: This article is pure media bias nonsense. They excuse his interest in communism as reflective of "the times." They say his grades were so much better except for that "Sophomore slump." Remember, this is the press that said Al Gore was so much smarter than Bush, and Gore FLUNKED out of law school And seminary school. So I don't buy the whole premise or their spin.

"Interestingly leftist oriented classes."
That, and his brother that was killed, I believe, by NVA forces in Laos. Not as an American soldier as some have been led to believe, but as a civilian on a 'lark.'
None of these things prove squat, but they certainly are outside of the curve. Might be some other surprises in Mr. Dean's closet to come.

and a course load reflective of those antiestablishment years.
BS!!! Few of us took that crap. Only the most dedicated America-haters did.
Geez, I took that kind of stuff, only focusing on China, not Russia. Even took Chinese. I recall getting an 'A' on a paper extolling the virtues of communism for China while deriding democracy in India. I even had my own copy of Mao's Little Red Book.
I don't think I ever hated America, I just wanted other people to chose their own government and if they chose communism, fine by me. What an idiot!! It took meeting people who'd lived under communism to disabuse me of that idea.
Eventually, I grew up and have been a conservative for a number of years now.
I guess some of us don't grow up, huh,Dr. Howard Brush (wtf?) Dean.
I can't wait to find out this commie is the candidate for the democrats.

I took my poly sci under a Polish professor that fled from Poland when the Russians arrived. He studied the Russians and didn't like what he saw. I don't think they made a more conservative poly professor. My study of the Russian system took place on border patrol against Chechoslavakia. The refugees I helped out of the Elbe River convinced me that the socio-communist system was better to die from than to live with. This was their thoughts and I had to agree with them.

Well, I have given game I've shot to others, but a dead cat is something a little different. To whom, pray tell, did the senior Dean tender this offering?

No mention of GWB's Harvard MBA? What a shock!
And no mention of the interviews of Dubya's business school classmate at a class
reunion a few years ago.
Anonymous interviews gave a fairly stong consensus view of Dubya along these lines:
not an intellecual, but liked by almost everyone in the class and looked to as a leader.
Shoot, Dean has flunked "plays well with others" his whole life.
With the exception of finding critical mass of like-minded nuts in a state with
fewer people than Arkansas.

If this guy was a Political Science major I could understand taking some of those courses.
I was a Poly Sci major and I do remember taking political philosophy courses where we read Marx & Engels, etc.
But I would think this guy would be Pre-Med. Who knows.

I do not recall. I think it was some in-law or something. Apparently his papa wasn't a really great guy.
Of course now that Dean is the working man candidate, does this mean he'll sell his 11-story APARTMENT in NYC??

I guess his professors taught him to use phrases like "working families," while saying "the era of Clinton is over" at the same time knowing that very term is an absolute favorite of the Clintons. Is he trying to take America back to the future?

The working man's candidate, huh? Sorry, I guess I missed that DNC memo. Oddly enough, somebody here wrote that he reminded them of the Steven King character Greg Stilson, another working man's candidate, from the novel the 'Dead Zone.' I read the book over 20 years ago (yes, that is a confession) and I think that is a pretty apt observation.
There certainly is more to this boy than we're being given.

I think it's interesting that the campaign released these transcripts. Apparently they believe the revelation that Howie loved Commie studies will impress America.
