Sharpton revs up against Dean

If Howard Dean wins the Democratic presidential nomination, he may have to campaign for black votes without any help from Al Sharpton. The Rev is furious at the Doc for invading his home turf Tuesday, when Dean went uptown to receive former Vice President Al Gore's endorsement at the National Black Theatre on 125th St. Sharpton didn't appreciate the coronation - or the venue.

"The day is past when black folks can be delivered," he said in a telephone interview. He called the Dean-Gore summit "drive-by campaigning in Harlem."

And he's firing back.

"Howard Dean is a conservative," Sharpton says. "He's supported three-strikes-and-you're-out sentencing. He called welfare recipients 'lazy people' with no work ethic. Now he wants to keep troops in Iraq for years. How are folks in the civil rights community supposed to support things like that?"

Dean's spokesman Eric Schmeltzer denied that Dean supported three-strikes sentencing.

Sharpton plans to attack Dean on these and other issues in upcoming Democratic primaries - particularly in the South. "I intend to hold his feet to the fire," he says.

For Dean, already scorched by his clumsy Confederate flag remark, this should be an unpleasant prospect. Still, Schmeltzer says the Doctor will be paying further visits to Harlem and other Sharpton strongholds. He says Dean has a lot of black support in New York and around the country.

"He was endorsed by Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.," Schmeltzer says.

This isn't going to make Sharpton happy. Jesse Jackson Sr. is his rival for influence in the Democratic Party. Two days after Jackson Jr. endorsed Dean, the former Vermont governor made his foray into Harlem. Sharpton does not consider this a coincidence.

At stake for Sharpton is control, both of his home turf and the African-American wing of the national party. He won't look kindly on any presidential candidate, including Dean, who doesn't recognize his primacy. In fact, he's threatening to sit out the 2004 election. "I'll just go back to Harlem," he says. Let Dean explain that to black voters.

On the local front, Sharpton is planning rallies in Harlem and the Bronx next week. The message is: I'm in charge here.

"In 2005 and 2006, I will actively campaign against those who campaign against me," he says. "This will definitely impact the races for mayor, controller and borough presidents."

City Council Speaker Gifford Miller (D-Manhattan), a likely candidate for mayor next year, endorsed Dean this week.

"And if you don't believe I have influence, ask Mayor Mark Green," Sharpton said.

For those of you who haven't been to New York lately, Green lost to Mayor Bloomberg after Sharpton refused to help fellow Democrat Green.

I read on another thread that Sharpton had just got a phone call from Bill Clinton (seriously) about how to beat Bush- but he mentioned the Gore [Dean] gang as well. Looks like the Clintons are marshalling all their troops at the moment to head off the Dean upstart. Rangel endorses Clark. Andrew Young endorses Clark. Sharpton gets call from Bubba- then disses Dean. Clinton aides and confidantes out bashing Dean.

It's getting interesting. I'm wondering if the reason Dean had his records sealed was to keep Bill and Hill from getting their hands on them.

Sure thing, Al. As Democrat abilities to run competitive races wanes, turnout in black precincts threatens to exceed 100% (with Republican ballots cast only in the single digits). Black folks are more "deliverable" today than they've ever been.

Sharpton plans to attack Dean on these and other issues in upcoming Democratic primaries - particularly in the South. "I intend to hold his feet to the fire," he says.

Oh really? So, why have you held back thus far, Al?

And notice the typical democrat strategem of changing the message depending on the audience. Can't let the folks know what you really believe, and you Al?

I'll make a prediction---Dean's going down.

There's no way the Clintoonistas are going to allow this attempted coup by Gore (of all people) to be successful.

The media has done their job---setting up the Clintoon wing of the party as the "moderate" wing.

And, Hillary! will run as Clark's VP. A beatable ticket, especially since Cheney is the ideal person to debate the wicked witch. But, it'll be a tougher fight.

When all is said and done, Gore and Dean are gone, and Hillary's next up on the runway.

Ooooooooooh, bad message there, Al! Do you really want to say that? It is, after all, the only reason the former Party of Slaveholders endures your embarrassing presence.

Odds are they have them and will wait until the time is right to skewer Ol Howard
If it looks like Bush can't be beaten they will wait until November to insure a big defeat for Howie

Now that Deano has the party going his way, … In the upcoming democratic primary (2004) ...

BIG AL NEEDS OUR HELP NOW MORE THAN EVER!
*** Register as a democrat and vote for Crazy Al! ***

During the May 3, 2003 demoncrap debate in Columbia, S.C., our man Al stated “The way to move a donkey is to slap the donkey,” and “I’m going to slap the donkey until the donkey kicks”.

Let’s help Crazy Al slap the donkey until it kicks.

GW has the Republican nomination sewn up. Its time for all good republicans, libertarians, and independents to stand up and be counted. Lets take a page from Sen. McCain’s play book. Prior to the 2004 democratic presidential primary in your state, re-register as a democrat and vote for Al Sharpton!

Lets ensure Crazy Al gets prime time speaking rights at the 2004 nationally televised democratic convention. You gotta love it. Line up, sign up, and send this to all your like-minded friends.

Here is a link to planned 2004 primary dates from the National Association of Secretaries of State:
http://www.nass.org/Issues/04primaries.html

Check here for the rules governing primary voting in your state:

In case you’d like to send Big Al a donation:

Anyone need a bumper sticker or button?

How about an Al Sharpton yard sign?

Want to keep up on the latest on Big Al’s progress? Go to the Republicans for Sharpton website at:
http://www.republicansforsharpton.com/

Oh yea, and don’t forget to call the local demoncrap party headquarters and ask them the following before the primary election:

1. Can I get a ride to the polls – help them spend their money during the primaries so they’ll have less during the national election. Have them take you the scenic route and stop off and do some shopping on the way home.
2. Are you giving anything away free for voting democrat? Cigarettes, booze, box of cigars, box lunch, etc. Ask for two of each.
3. Send 25 cents in the mail to the DNC and watch how much they spend on mailing you to give to the party. Always send their solicitation back to them with all associated literature in the prepaid envelope included in the mailing. They have to pay that postage upon return. Great way to help them spend money and keep you up to date on their propaganda.

Can you think of any other questions we should ask them?
