There are only three ways off that hill. One is through Hisperia/Apple Valley (18); one is the 330 to 30 which brings you down to Redlands; the other way brings you down to right around Palm Springs, I think it's the 38. There is another way, but you have to have a four-wheel drive to drive over the northern side of the mountain. It's dangerous and only the local folks know the terrain.

I lived in Big Bear off and on for ten years.

KOGO - Helo reporter, reporting from above area

"lots of destruction at Cuyamanga (sp)

Julian - "I'm over HS in Julian - Fire is burning SE of HS, smoke is blowing east, seems fire is burning away HS,

Looks like fire is burniing in Whispering Pines, Kentwood in Pines, Pine Hills

Whispering Pines " Flames I am seeing are homes Dozens of homes in flames, below me"

This is the SE portion of Julian that has been hit. Anything to the NW of Whispering Pines seems to be OK.

Mostly south of this area to I8 seems to be OK."

Per helicopter reporter from KOGO

Rt 38 goes into Redlands as you come down into the valley from Big Bear and goes past the Ranger Station at Bryant and 38 -- Bryant heads into Yucaipa and Rt 38 goes on into Redlands.
