well, we were watching in our office yesterday during lunch, and they had the guys walking up CA18 with the firest popping on both sides....and they guy flat out said they would make saving efforts to those homeowners who had cleared brushed, cut limbs and trees, and had newer composite roofs.

Fire seems like it's jumping from tree to tree now. activity seems much higher in the Julian area now, keep saying they will make a stand at downtown Julian . ff talking to each other, and their commanders in trucks, reported is getting ready to bug out immediately if they need to, they'e that freaked out.

.. and don't forget those thick malt shakes they served up at that old-fashioned fountain on the corner!

They seem to be evacuating FF crews and beginning to look more the fire is just going to be on its on in a lot of areas.
Fire is moving down into Summit Valley.
KFI reporter is in the air and smoke is coming up about 3/4 of the way on Mount Wilson in the San Gabriels. The High Desert is covered in a pall of thick smoke.

Don't think there is much they can do with homes with the older shake roofs.

ff just said they have only one escape 78 south, in case they need to totally evacuate the town. recap the situation, i'll try to type. Ridge been burning for the last hour or so, whole town evac'd. ff and media all that's left. North of town, cloud of smoke, he doesn't knowo what that is, 3 miles north. ff been camped out all night. seeing flareups on the ridge (seeing fire trucks soming back into town?? or going south out of town??, not sure) showing house on ridge that has fire around it. showing helicopter still dipping to pond, getting water and dumping it on ridge. No other way to fight that ridge fire, except for helo, air tanker support. (hard to believe they can see in all that smoke. ) Now helo not dropping water on the ridge, going west. more fire engines heading north of town. naming cities on the fire trucks, people who have come to help.

BB, I assume is Big Bear. Evacuated yesterday. My boss and her sister own homes there. The boss rents hers out for the weekend or week. Yesterday she tried to contact the rental management company. She got no answer. That was at 11:30. Radio announced mandatory evacuations yesterday around 11am.

The High Desert is covered in a pall of thick smoke.{sputter} "yep!" Although, the sun peeks through from time to time. I think the winds are blowing into the east now more than the northeast (I'm in the central AV) off in search of a bandanna before I go outside
