In my encounters with Muslim people, I find many are quite nice but the overwelming majority are totally ignorant of worldly facts, especially the women. No disrespect ment but I think Islam has held them back in the dark ages, that cannot be good.

That's exactly why they'll never come to prominence. Half their population is not allowed to participate in their society.
