I do not understand how and why in America a woman's life and right to life is held in the hands of her husband. How atrocious and appalling to think that wives are still viewed as chattel and slaves, held in bondage by marriage vows. That's not marriage. That is not the vow "...to have and to hold, in sickness and in health."

I refused to say, "obey", when Mr. M and I were married but I never thought about how the rest could be twisted. I'll remember this when my children marry. If anything Terri's life and death will have brought up many questions and hopefully will save other women's lives. Strange how that monster refused to divorce her (as per her wishes) and followed the last of his vows, "until death do us part".

I feel the same way. The very idea that a husband has the right to condemn an unwanted wife to a cruel, inhumane punishment and torture that will lead to her death, rather than divorce her is so appalling to me.

We are not living in medieval times, or the dark ages, when men controlled every aspect of a women's life, even her life. He could lock her away and no one would or could , lift a finger. In essence, this is the same as is happening to Terri.

Didn't we have a Women's Liberation Movement confirm and celebrate Women's Rights? Whatever happened to the year of the Woman? Where are the female Senators? Where is NOW?
