This is not the case with Terri so killing her is at best assisted suiicide

I call it "Involuntary Assisted Suicide", AKA "Going Dutch".

Could it be that he is only tring to do what he thinks she would have wanted?

Sure.

Could it be that my dog is laying turds out back that are really poop-covered gold nuggets?

Sure.

Looks like they accomplished it with everyone but the court.

I wonder why.

It's like the Clinton impeachment evidence. It convinced everyone except for the Senate.

It's funny how corruption works, isn't it.

I feel like if we really have fallen to such a repulsive state as a nation, where a woman can be murdered by her husband with the Courts as an accomplice, then one wonders how far off the Judgement can be.

When a civilization crosses a certain threshold of depravity, it creates its own judgement.

Look at the Third Reich, Stalin, Pol Pot.. all the way back to the Moloch worshippers who threw their babies into raging furnaces.

Someone who can, should do whatever does the job. I just pray they do it soon and correctly.

Why not do what Janet Reno did for Elian Gonzales? Should we try to get ahold of Ashcroft?

What a destestable statement about a man who has no power to fight this legal obscenity, and who in fact is doing everything within his power to help the family.

He's doing everything in his power, except act.

The man is a regular profile in currage, I tell ya. He won't back down from anything except a fight.

Jeb's on Terri's side. He's doing what he can within the law.

If I hear this line one more time, I'll... I'll... I'lll... I'll demand to be added to the GOP Happytalk Talking Points Fax Tree.

You guys do realize that you sound like you're reading it off a script, I hope.

Why do people care about how we think about the governor? If I see this as weakness, and I don't want to vote for him, so what? I can't believe that some folks main concern here is the party line.

And I must confess, there's something about this situation, above and beyond the Michael Shiavo hustler theory and this total human disaster, that doesn't sit very well with me. I don't know what it is yet. There's a whole lot of conflicting information, as Spyder pointed out.

There is an underlying element that is abhorent to anyone with even a shred of humanity, that being the idea that if we don't know what someone wants out of life, we should kill them.

I agree with every one of your points except the last, as these are no doubt part of Terri's medical records, protected by law, for now. But they might surface later. The law, medicine (including medical ethics), the pro-life movement, the right-to-die crowd, and other entities have a huge interest in this.

I don't know if and when her medical records can be accessed, but I'm willing to bet that a large number of people will be after the contents.

Well, maybe, and maybe not. You've got to consider the realpolitik aspects. Even though they're sealed, someone knows what's in 'em.

Among all the parties who'd like to know what they contain, the obvious fact is, there will be some parties whose position will be harmed if they're unsealed.

Now, what do you think would happen of those who know what the records contain were to be of the same mindset as those who'd be harmed by disclosure?

Do you think that just maybe they might take their fellow-traveller aside and discretely suggest that, "you don't really want to go opening that can of worms"?

I believe such a scenario is quite possible.

I believe similar things go on all the time. There is a very gritty underbelly to "civilization."

What can Jeb do, legally?

Walk into the hospital with a police escort, and a spoon and some food. Who could stop him?

Michael Schiavo knows that if Terri gets the proper medical care she may be able to tell the world that he is the one who put her in that state. Also, he has a life insurance policy on her that he wants to collect on

And, don't forget, he's got a new fiance with whom he's had 2 children already. The sooner he can kill his wife, the faster he can "move on" with "life".

I'd sure hate to be him at judgement day. Just think of the playbacks:

"Terri, I take you to be my wife... in sickness and in health"....

"Thou shalt not commit adultery"

"I was hungry, and ye fed me not... depart into the fire prepared for the devil...."

He absolutely does. He could make a public spectacle out of the situation. Show up at the hospice in person and try to feed Terri with his own hands. He could give a thunderous speech denouncing this ghoulish action. Is there any doubt this would create a public outcry that would escalate this case outside the hands of a two-bit judicial rogue? The media would be FORCED to pay attention. True leaders take action in situations like this. Spineless wussies do what Jeb is currently doing.

Amen, with one comment: it's not only true leaders who take action like this. It's anyone with even a minimal amount of street savvy.

Sometimes it pays to ask WWJD?

So? What would Jesse do?

I think we all know. And I think we all know what the results would be, too.

You got it.

The thing is, LOTS of people are getting it.

They're awaking a sleeping giant. That's the last thing any politician wants to do.

Jeb could have owned the world. He could have MAYBE lost his job over this -- and worn it as a badge of courage -- and then he'd win the White House in a landslide. People would be carrying him on their shoulders cheering him everywhere he went.

Instead, he chose to be a spineless wimp, and avoid risking his job. What makes this even more despicable -- and more STUPID -- is that he's a lame duck!

His job is lost anyway!

I just can't believe someone can be THAT clueless and still be governor!

When someone is in the clutches of death itself, she doesn't need "nuanced positions", she needs to be rescued.

There's a reason the SEALS, Rangers, and other special forces don't send in the lawyers.

Hey, I got a big lunker Rottweiller and double-digit kitties. It comes natural to me. :)

(And the dog loves the cats. He thinks they're his. Very protective of 'em. Strangest thing you've ever seen is a kitten rubbing up against a big Rottie, and the dog licking the cat.)
