"Delegate Hunter" Manafort Brings Savvy to Trump Camp
RealClearPolitics ^ | April 1, 2016 | Rebecca Berg

If Donald Trump has so far succeeded with his disregard for the conventional rules of presidential politics, his hiring this week of seasoned Republican hand Paul Manafort seemed to signal an acknowledgement that the rules are now paramount.

Manafort is a “master” of delegate counting and convention strategy, according to those who have worked with and against him, and one of only a few operatives with practical experience in this niche area. For a campaign whose survival might well hinge on a few dozen delegates, Manafort’s hire is a monumental, if surprising, coup.

“The fact that Trump hired him is a serious move forward,” said Scott Reed, now the senior political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who managed Bob Dole’s 1996 campaign for president -- on which Manafort also worked. “Paul is a proven vote counter, he knows how to strategically move a campaign."

Reed added, “It hasn’t gone unnoticed by [Ted] Cruz and [John] Kasich.”[continued]

Where did you get the idea that you have any influence over anyone ?

Where did you get the idea that you can get away with anything here and not be held accountable for your posts and threads?

I used to be a Trump supporter but this move just proves he is another puppet for the GOPe. I now support Cruz.

Good!

The secret of success is to hire the right people for the right jobs.

Looks like Trump is doing exactly that.

Held accountable? WTH are you going on about? This is a discussion forum, not the Nuremburg trials. You need to head to your meditation room and try and calm down. LOL

I've been here longer than you have. I know exactly what FR is.

You're the one who needs to calm down and perhaps head for your "safe zone", before you make yourself very ill.

Obviously, I have hit quite a few nerves, 2DV, which you are now having difficulty dealing with. Pity that.....

When you joined I was working three jobs to support a growing family and barely had time to sleep, much less get on a computer and chat with people. I’m glad you had the luxury of a PC and Internet connection back then, but millions of us didn’t.

Who are you, Don Rickles? You can shut your pie hole with the insults or get off of FR if you can’t manage to control yourself. You believe what you believe and ditto for me.

I prefer Cruz, but if he can’t win - I’ll certainly vote for Tump, but I doubt you would do the same.

But the people voted for Donald Trump not Ted Cruz. Ted uses the “rules” to subvert the will of the people like all good lawyers would. Donald Trump is now going to use the rules to see that the people get the candidate they voted for.

Maybe you can explain this to me so I can understand.

Aside from all of the vitriol anti-Trump people have for the successful, what in the world has Donald Trump EVER done to generate the hateful invective pols and others have hurled toward him?

Donald Trump NEVER did ANYTHING to cause the hateful actions toward him from Megyn Kelly, Carly Fiorina, Scott Walker, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz just to name a few.

Aside from jealousy, I just do not understand it.

Oh well, I am just glad he is wildly popular among the American people, especially women.

Both Newt and Roger Stone have said Manafort is “the best vote-getter in the business”. Trump has made some mistakes as a newbie politician and not having a guy like this already on-board was one of them, but “fool me once”...

Again, can he really beat 200 well-trained staffers who have been at this for some time now? We shall see.

wow...that went bad in a hurry...

If you go hunting you’re probably going to do better if you hire a professional guide, and since guides make their living providing these services I guess that makes them “hunting insiders”.

All kinds of specialists make their living providing services to politicalns, and it only takes a few minutes Googling their names to see their CVs or previous campaign history is a big part of their resume. Sure they’re insiders, but candidates hire them to provide specialized expertise for a short period of time, then they’re out looking for work til the next campaign picks them up.

Yeah, dunno. Heck if I had Trump’s money I’d skip the formalities and just pay ‘em off ;-) Seriously, the laws that prohibit gifts etc to public officials don’t apply to convention delegates. It seems to be kind of a legal gray-area which means there are some limits, but an equal number of ways to provide “quid pro quo”. For example, a candidate could promise to steer business to a delegate, offer appointments or political favors, etc. I’ve read that pro-Clinton supporters in the 2008 election offered $1 million to get Democrat superdelegates to go her way. Evidently it wasn’t enough ;-)

And there you have it in a nutshell.

Nicely said.

What a delightful post. I get the same type of response when I argue with leftists over at Mediaite.

Well lets face facts. The 7th King has been sleazing up the joint since Iowa. Its a career with him. Now its rumored he’s been playing Who’s your Daddy with some 5-8 women and if that turns out to be true it make his dirty trix look pale by comparison. So he may not have to worry about the delegate stealing scam much longer. :-)

Copy and paste all night? Go ahead.
Great to be able to share ideas other than your own using that method.
Some of us choose to think for ourselves.
I won’t respond in kind. You know, the vulgarities.
