Trucking industry leader: Tea party a 'corrosive' force (RINO former KS Gov. Bill Graves)
The Politico ^ | October 21, 2013 | Kevin Robillard

So much for the great trucker-tea party alliance.

Barely a week after conservative activists were counting on a massive protest by truck drivers to snarl the Beltway and bring President Barack Obama to heel, the head of the nation’s largest trucking industry organization denounced the right-wing movement Monday as a “corrosive” force that threatens the business community’s ties to the GOP.

“What’s most alarming is the collapse of the Republican Party and the emergence of the conservative wing of the party, most often referred to as the Tea Party, and its emergence as a very corrosive force,” American Trucking Associations President Bill Graves — a former Republican governor of Kansas — said at a group conference in Orlando, Fla.

His words are the latest example of the business community’s growing frustration with tea party Republicans in Congress. The government shutdown knocked an estimated $24 billion off the nation’s gross domestic product, and the willingness of some Republicans to default on the nation’s debt alarmed business leaders.

“Don’t get me wrong,” Graves said, “while it’s appropriate, and there is certainly merit in advocating for reduced government spending, smaller government, reducing our debt, limiting regulations and controlling the reach and intrusive nature of the federal government — insisting on having things their way, without a hint of willingness to compromise and threatening to ‘burn the house down’ otherwise, is a combination of foolish, ill-advised, reckless and detrimental actions to the future of this country.”(continued)

That is such crap.

Oh, I just bet he speaks for everyone. What a hack. Also, Tea Partiers DID negotiate. Did this idiot pass grade school? I doubt it. Obama was the one who said over and over again “I will not negotiate”.

Clearly stuck on stupid. Graves handed the governorship to Scabelius, so I put about as much stock in him as Krispy Kreme.

The Tea Party will eventually shine a bright light on the corruption in DC and all those who own and operate the political establishment.

Actually if you seek an Org that represents drivers it is probably OOIDA. They lobby on behalf of truck drivers and operate on donations.

ATA supports the union side of trucking. They love the new regs. Don’t put much stock in them. OOIDA (Owner Operator and Independent Driver’s Assoc) is the grass roots organization.

"So much for the great trucker-tea party alliance."

Does this dummy Kevin realize there's a big difference between Corporate Trucking and the guy yanking on that Road-Ranger?

My guess is that most of them are on our side.

This Bill Graves fool.....I guess no one told him that during the weekend before the partial shutdown, the Republicans were on Capitol Hill burning the midnight oil trying to avert a “shutdown,” while Harry Reid and the rest of the rats didn’t even bother to show up. And then there’s Obama with his “we will not negotiate” BS.

The “shutdown” cost the economy $24 billion? More like it saved the taxpayers $24 billion.

How about the many TRILLIONS of dollars the economy has lost in the five years since Obama has been president?

Also, what gives with Kansas? Kathleen Sebelius and this flake Bill Graves were both elected governor?

“Willingness to compromise”?

Where was that on Obamacare? These massive deficits? Social Security/Medicare? Food stamps?

You dumbass, no one on the other side bothers to “compromise” It’s there way or highway, but a different highway than your trucker use

Get a real job

The weakling wing of the republican party still thinks they can play nice and negotiate with the obama regime. Look at how far that strategy has gotten us so far. The no balls approach favored by Mcconnel and Boner has brought us obamacare, $17 trillion in debt and put the moslum brotherhood in charge of our government. By the time these wimps find a spine there won't be anything left to fight for.

Tea party a 'corrosive' force

Sometimes you need a strong corrosive to clean the sludge from the pipes.

Ummm, dumb@ss, who was it that insisting on having things their way? Who rebuffed each and every proposal put forth by the Congressional Republicans. You are what is wrong with the Republican Part, not the Tea Party factiony.

Should say:

California Trucking Assn. is the same. They didn’t do chit to oppose our diesel emission regulations.
In the next 14 months, the owner/op will be virtually nonexistent in California.

I read the reference article this morning, and promptly told the ATA to revoke my membership since the organization had merely become a mouthpiece for the communist in chief.

OOIDA is the only organization that truly represents truckers, but even there the big trucking companies carry more weight than owner operators like myself. (Electronic logs for example.)

This Graves guy is a real piece of work - to be polite.

The EPA is feeling the heat, the push back.

Once the EPA is gone so is Ethanol. No more burning food for fuel.

No more $8 a bushel corn.
