Paul Ryan is a player for the nomination, but says he has kids and a life, therefore he has turned down time swallowing promotions and titles in congress. I believe he could take on Katy Couric without making my palms sweat, and on any subject. Also, there is probably no film on him showing otherwise, to loop 24/7.

Ryan has proven to be doer, not a talker, experienced enough with conservative policy to perhaps be another Chris Christi, and NOT get rolled. I pray for a dark horse candidate, and would like very much for it to be him.

Romney = John McCain (ego and sense of entitlement) + Bob Dole (charisma) + John Kerry (arrogance of wealth) + Ted Kennedy (policies) + H. Ross Perot (spoiler)

I understand that but her approvals have her at 40 percent. So who did the other 17 percent support. If she has 40 percent supporters than she should have 40 percent Tea Partiers in her column. There is something that these Tea Partiers are seeing in other candidates that Palin is not providing them. I would seriously find that out if I were her.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Approval is almost always going to be higher than support, especially in a crowded field -- approval is "do you have a positive impression of X?" whereas support is "given a list, would you vote for X?"

So someone may "approve" of potential candidates A, B, and C, but in the end, can only "support" one of those three.

In the context of a primary, that means that said vote may support candidate A, but could very well switch to "next best" choices B or C if A falters.

As a more concrete example, the last "approval" poll I saw for a theoretical GOP primary, there were at least 4 names with over 50% approval. Clearly they can't all have support equal to their approval, and in fact none do, as the leaders were in the high 20's for support.

Perspectives from a FR conservative Dem: 1, 2, & 3. J.D. in AZ

1. "Todd at the Top!"

2. Pending - need list of candidates who are suitable for 2010 and 2012...
And, a list of those who are not suitable -

PRIME LIST:

Empty - Pending - You have to prove yourself.

My Prime contenders, at this time (Aug 3): West, Christie, Bachmann (1 L, 2 N's).

Others for consideration: Former CA Congressman Duncan Hunter; Amb. / Dr. Alan Keyes

The Palins - I prefer "Todd at the Top!" Not that Todd Palin will necessarily be a candidate, but if the Palin Family pursues a political career, I would like to see Todd take the lead...

GOP Non-Starters / reject: Rudy, mcC, Mitt, Huck. For some / many conservatives, there are strong feelings of "NO more Bushes".
Gingrich, etc. - he just gave a good speech. Ok, but West has that subject covered. Gingrich had his chance & squandered leadership. More Non-starters - "... the GOP establishment that created the mess, that the Tea Party movement is trying to clean up...The Tea Party needs fresh people with fresh ideas, on how to cut the size of government. Old GOP has-beens cannot contribute much to the debate on restoring American freedoms. - by pinochet

Dem Non-starters: Virtually all prominent Democrat leaders... Democrats need to find new talent!

Need a list of prominent politicians (and celebrities) who should NOT be serving in American government / who should NOT be considered for a Cabinet post.

3. Guv / Mrs. Palin made the wrong endorsement in AZ. Mrs. Palin should immediately travel to Arizona and give a stong endorsement to J.D. Hayworth for U.S. Senate. If Mrs. Palin refuses to make this endorsement, then I would like to see Todd Palin get involved and make an endorsement to J.D. Hayworth for U.S. Senate.

MucksaraCain, Change Your Endorsement! For some / many of us who were thrilled to see Gov. Palin on the ticket in 2008, with this AZ endorsement disaster (and the Calif. US Senate endorsement), Ma Grizzle has lost her sizzle.

In 2008, Gov. Palin told us about "reform" in Alaska, and the need for "reform" in D.C. So what does Mrs. Palin do in AZ (& Calif.) in 2010, she gives us nothing more than just more PAU. PAU, Politics As Usual!

What you point out could be true, but the factual situation doesn’t line up with your point.

40% approval when asked if you approve or disapprove of her does not equal to 40% support when competing against other options esp. for POTUS.

I suspect they might not see her as THE PRESIDENT...even if they generally approve of her. In their minds they more easily imagine one of the others as THE PRESIDENT. To change that she needs to be seen in a more serious executive roll - oddly enough, which she did perform on her way to and upon becoming AK’s chief.

Let’s say I like her but see her more as a celebrity mom than anything else.
I would to some extent have fallen for media spin, but so be it, I pick one of the others as a result.

That’s what is behind my conclusion that 40% doesn’t translate to 40% of the vote, for President, with other options available.

Romney is fatally flawed mostly due to the forced hlthcare in Mass. which is also unaffordable. He has other flaws as well. Wish he would just go away..

The Palin family has no political career, only she has one. Having served in a series of elected executive positions...

I forget which talk host - Beck? - , but he said he asked her once why not endorse Mc’s opponent instead, and she shrugged her shoulders and said, c’mon, JD Hayworth?

She knew something.

JD’s problem is JD.

Sorry to say.

Could FReepers and the voters in AZ please begin to think in terms of "magnitude"?

The LARGE MAGNITUDE PROBLEM that is John McCain;

in comparsion to the small magnitude problems of J.D. Hayworth.

1. [n] the property of relative size or extent ; "they tried to predict the magnitude of the explosion".

Oh, look - They have McC right here in the dictionary:

2. [n] relative importance : John McCain, "a problem of the first magnitude".

One of the reasons that "Ma Grizzle has lost her sizzle" is that after the '08 disaster, Mrs. Palin was/is unable to initally say / finally say, "c'mon, MuckCain AGAIN?! - NO WAY!" This was/is the only reasonable answer. And in this particular situation, the 'loyalty' excuse is still lame.

It is my hope that the J.D. Hayworth campaign continues, and is successful with J.D.'s election in the AZ primary.
