It must give great comfort to crimnals.

It is discrimnatory. Why just Mexicans? Why not Canadians, Icelanders, Swedes? Seems to me Bush wants to convert us into another Mexico. Or he has a vested interest.

It is absurd to talk about attacking Saddam when we haven't secured our borders. And it is absurd to talk about homeland security when we refuse protect our borders or deport illegals no matter what country they are from.

Our biggest danger comes from open borders, from the hordes of enemy soldiers infiltrating our country.

Yeah, and the drug cartel is now making more money by smuggling in people, as in Middle Eastern men! (That was also exposed on O'Reilly the other night). Why bother closing up security problems with airplanes if our country continues to be surrounded by holes, and huge ones at that?

The Republicans have been able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory many times.
If Bush,and Rove see this thru they will effectively hand the 2004 National election to the Democrat party, and maybe that is what they would deserve.

Mr. Garza told Mexico's Reforma and El Universal newspapers that the United States could offer legalized residency to as many as 15 percent of the undocumented aliens who have been here for more than 10 years.

Does anybody read the details? Why are so many people here against Bush getting rid of 85% of the established illegal aliens and 100% of the illegals with less than ten years here? Even the Bush bashers must admit that many of the problems that plague our border areas' infrastructure would be solved if this group of the illegals were gone. Bush is bad because he proposes to expel 90+% of the illegals? Why are some complaining about this program?

I find this article most disturbing. On the one hand the Department of Defense has establed a data base under the control of Admiral Poindexter (remember him) to track the activities of U.S. Citizens (something about being secure or whatever in the Constitution comes to mind) and on the other hand the Bush administration continues to send signals about amnesty for illegals.

on rant- NAFTA was supposed to cure the cross border incursions. Bush should be putting pressure on Vincente Fox to create a middle class in Mexico. Of course hopes for that were dashed during the Clinton Administration when the IMF pressured Mexico to devalue the Peso destroying out middle class savings. -off Rant

I live in Nashville, TN. In the past ten years it has become Mexico. Even billboard signs are in Spanish now. I don't mind Mexicans if they want to become AMERICANS, but they DON'T. They want to bring Mexico here. Bush is a traitor to the American People in this area. He is taking the side of Big-Business over our soverenty. Just my opinion.

Bush to push for amnesty

A headline which might as well read 'Bush surrenders Southwest United States to Mexico". Pathetic and disgusting. Why doesn't he just call a time out and ask the terrorists really really nice to please leave since they came into our country illegally too? What a pile of chicken bleep we have in our positions of leadership in this nation now.

Bush is working on many fronts to make America a place no different from any other third world country. The amnesty proposal and this work visa proposal along with his support for the H-1B and L-1 visa's are in essence going to create an environment where a lot more people can not find jobs. He just signed into law another bill which allows and H-1B worker to remain in the US forever (http://www.usavisanow.com/110502-a.html). This new amnesty work visa proposal will be the same. What will happen to wages, how many people will be unable to find a job after Bush and company bring in an unlimited supply of high tech workers from India and China and low tech workers from Mexico?

This is all part of the plan to rid America of the middle class.

I won't believe it until I hear it from Colin Powell. He has plans for immigration and border security under the Homeland Security Bill. Nonetheless, if Bush pushes for amnesty, he is severely risking the support of many- including me.

I agree. I want to hear it from the man himself, if not Colin Powell. Rhetoric or not, however, I will not support the President if he pushes this.

Your assumptions are exactly the same ones that many people made when they went along with the last, last amnesty.

The language of Bush's last attempt at extending 245(i) was so convoluted that absolutely every illegal alien in the country qualified to apply for residency. They would have all been allowed to stay until the INS ruled on their applications.

That would have taken another 10 years. That's defacto, blanket amnesty.

Nobody is "bringing in" workers. They show up here because they are motivated. The middle class still exists and always will. We are no longer employees, we are the small business owners and many hire the illegals. I don't. Many in our low end workforce have found it more lucrative to collect from government programs than to go to work everyday. They don't show up half the time or quit after a bender. Then they complain because some illegal takes their job. It's the middle class who is hiring dependable labor that fuels this argument.
