Most people cringe at the sight of a pregnant woman smoking. Some people feel strongly enough to say something in protest. But one local man took matters into his own hands early Friday when, according to police, he shot an expectant mother who refused to put out her cigarette.

How can "The Church" hand down edicts when they are too busy hiding pedophiles.

Much like the liberal media can, as they too tend to hide pedophiles...

You never see an anti-gun advocate shooting up abortion clinics - miniscule data

Yeah, they just shoot innocent people in DC like of the Millon Mom leaders did. Barbara Graham I believe her name was.

As I asked, what century are you from - "dowry" rights?????

I am in the 21st century. YOU are the one that needs to get up to speed. Dowry rights in America became very popular in the late 20th century, and "dowry rights" is now the legal term for the year 2002, which gives the wife an ownership right to any property that husband purchases or acquires while they are married in certain states, many states. ( I guess you have not heard of that yet? check it out!) Many mortgage companies will not even give a mortgage loan on any property of the husband unless it can get both signatures, and furthermore, the husband cannot alone sell the current home, regardless of when acquired, without the wifes permission and consent of her dowry rights. Furthermore, the same applies even more to the husbands 401k plan, which he may have started even before they got married, and most custodians will not even give the husband a loan on his 401k without the approval and notarized signature of the wife consenting her dowry right for a loan on his money.

People who shoot pregnant smokers harm people
As do gun grabbers like you(And you can own guns and still be a gun grabber) who arrogantly want to deny people the right to defend themselves and their family.

I always thought it interesting that women were not allowed to go into bars, until the year just before Prohibition. Women are not equal , and most of us do not want to be brought down to being equal. Most women dont want to be drafted or to be sent into combat in Iraq or Vietnam, or whatever third world infested rathole that the men always so eagarly want to go fight in, we dont want to lose dowry rights, we dont want to lose custody of our children, etc.

You are definitely from a different century. And I'm starting to think from a different planet.

I may not be quite as physically cabable of some things as my husband is - but I am just as equal to him.

Who do you think you are telling me I am unable to be equal to a man? Just because you don't think you are don't dump your insecuritites on other women.

And what is it with you and this "dowry rights" thing? You are apparently unaware that a "dowry" is something the bride's family gives to the newlyweds. Did you have a husband divorce you and not agree to alimony?

I just read SheLion's post #212 to you. She is such a rabid smoker she cannot be civil when someone disagrees with her even a little bit. Don't let her upset you. She is wrong & may someday have to suffer for her stupid habit. Don't let her rage stop you from saying anything you want, to anyone.

I told you I made a mistake & posted it to you incorrectly but I didn't say anything I wouldn't have said to your face. You are rabid in your treatment of people who disagree with you. We are supposed to be civil here but very often you are not. I tease & make fun but I am not mean & I don't say things to hurt people.

Furhtermore, I dont believe that ANY substance, or ANY inanimate or material thing(except weapons of mass destruction), should ever be illegal to any citizen of the United States.

You are obviously a control freak who has no understanding that others have a life that may be different than yours. Who died and left you in charge of the lives of others??? I would suggest that you do a bit of checking regarding the people you are spewing your anti-smoker hatred at.....to a one of us, I would suggest, we know more about the risks involved in our ADULT choice to smoke cigarettes than all the anti fanatics you represent combined.

Which words do you not understand:(I dont believe that ANY substance, or ANY inanimate or material thing(except weapons of mass destruction), should ever be illegal to any citizen of the United States.) Have someone you know read this statement and tell you what it means, then come back for more discussion. ?

Can you make the same statement as I did above(once you reread it and understand it)? Do you also believe that any American citizen, not in prison, should be able to own and possess ANYTHING he wants to if he can afford it?

There are clear dangers and risks in using tobacco and opium and machine guns, I recognize them and admit to them. Yet none of them should be outlawed to American citizens.

Nicotine is a drug, just as marijuanna or opium is a drug, and most people on this board think that they have a right to decide whether others can take drugs, or not.

Caffeine is also a drug, in fact it is drug within the same biological family as nicotine - I guess the next ban will be on coffee, tea, and cola drinks.

You don't like nicotine, fine - I trust you never ingest any vegetable of the nightshade family including tomato and eggplant.

The next time you wish to relate my smoking a cigarette to a cocaine or opium user, I suggest you do your homework first.

I don't particularly care what you buy or not - it's none of my business.

Just as it is none of your business if I chose to smoke tobacco or not.

Creatiing a link between this jerk who shot this woman and the hysterics of the anti-smoker cartel are very easily connected.

Claiming anything different is delusional.

Did you fight in Vietnam? the Gulf War? did you register for the draft? did you try to and was refused? Do you have no obligation to defend this country? Are you trying to go to Iraq, if not in the US armed forces, then as a part of a mercenary group? Are your daughters registered for the draft? Are you suing the US government for denying to register your daughters for the draft? You are not "equal" until you do. Do you know what the word : "equal" means? Look it up. The ERA did not pass in the 1970's, because women did not want to be equal, pure and simple.

I see nothing in your posts to indicate that you have taken up an equal share in the "responsiblities" of being an American, as the American males have done.

Unless you are handicapped in some way, you are fully capable of fighting and defending this country, just as many Israli and Cambodian and Vietnamese women were able to defend their country by shooting rifles and artillary. If you can drive a car, you can drive a tank. If you can play a video game, you are able to shoot a gun. If you can walk, you can walk to the front lines.

I also guess you do not live in a community property state, since you have never heard of Dowry rights, or Dower rights, as explained in an earlier post.

It is too bad that you do not live in a community property state, because it means that your husband can sell your home and put the money anywhere without your permission.

Even if every drug addict actually died, it would still be less than the numbers that die due to smoking alone each year.

And where, praytell, do you get your figures on smoking deaths from?
Hopefully it's not the CDC as all they do is make ESTIMATES based on a computer program that is GIGO.
If from any other site that is not scientifically based, it's probably an anti-smoking site.

If, as is claimed by the anti-smokers that maternal smoking while pregnant is SO detrimental to the unborn - why are their so many healthly and successful baby-boomers being productive members of society?

As I posted earlier, the evidence I have seen suggests that the dangers to the unborn from mothers who smoke is not an across-the-board set amount of harm. It is a risk factor. Yes, it is one of many risk factors, such as an unhealthy diet.

It doesn't mean that if you smoke your baby will have problems. It means that if you smoke your baby has a slightly greater chance of having problems. Just how much is less clear and open to interpretation depending on how you spin your statistics. One person might stress that a given factor doubles the chance of some birth defect, but another might point out that the increase is from 1% to 2%.

So all the anecdotal stories "My mom smoked and I was fine" are, statistically speaking, completely irrelevant. If you want to argue that an extra 1 or 2 or 5% or whatever increased percentage of birth defects is an acceptable risk, fine.

Let's go ahead and say it is a very low percentage, like 1%. Fine. We go to a lot trouble and expense addressing diseases that affect small percentages of the population (MD, CF, etc.). This particular risk factor is 100% avoidable.

I think we've got credible evidence that smoking while pregnant is a significant risk factor for the health of the unborn. I don't think that advising you to not smoke for those nine months is too much. Many responses I've seen to that here seemed to be based on an incomplete understanding of statistics or an argument that you can do whatever you want with your body.

I treat people the way they treat me. If an "anti" comes into our threads and gives us chit, they will get it back just as hard.

If someone comes into our threads and wants to debate, I will do all I can to inform them. But most "antis" have tunnel vision and all they can see is hate for us. No! If I am wrong for not bowing down to that, then so be it. But I refuse to do this.

You got from me exactly what I got from you: hate.

My mom smoked - but I wasn't that big!!!! I was less than 6 pounds - but when you figure my Mom was 5'11" and under 120 pounds, it accounts for a lot. 2 years later my brother weighed almost 9 pounds - and my mother still smoked.

Scarlett Fever, Chicken Pox and Mumps are not caused by being exposed to SHS - the only times my brother and I were ever sick. And I was 12 before I got Chicken Pox.

Excessive illness,, birth defects, and lack of intellgence in children of smokers, so promoted by the antis, just doesn't seem to be the norm, does it?

I have no wuss men in my life - and the majority of them are smokers. Count me weird,, but I prefer male to female friends.

Still married, never divorced, live in a community property state, never signed away any dower rights, never signed off on any 401k loan nor withdrawal either, all assets in living trusts.
