In the interview, Schlosser agrees with the magazine's premise that this supposed fatty food epidemic targets America's poor. Who, of course, also must be very dumb, and desperately in need of protection from themselves by Big Brother government.

On one hand, he says "logical" individuals can cut back whenever their common sense kicks in; On the other hand, he says the demand for cigarettes, like "any other drug", is inelastic; Users will pay any price. This appears contradictory.

I vaguely remember reading a sci-fi story a number of years back in which the premise was that the government had outlawed meat-eating and that stimulated an underground network of "burger dens", similar to opium dens or speak-easys, in which, if you knew the password or had been sent by someone who was known at that "den", you could purchase bootleg meat which had been, as one character put it, "smuggled in from his suppliers at the stockyards in Venezuela".
Interesting premise ... and I remember thinking at the time that it was a little far-fetched.
In my dreams ... or, rather, nightmares.

I've been telling the anti-smoking "conservative" crowd that once they successfully get rid of cigarettes, they'll be coming after something you enjoy next... but I am now hearing the same thing from them about fatty foods... shouldn't WE, not the government or special interest groups decide what goes into our bodies?

Radical leftie "do-gooder" activists are bad enough when they have their facts straight. But it's even worse when they are, in fact, wrong.
Banning tobacco, although it's wrongfully intrusive, would at least have ONE good effect: a reduction in the incidence of several diseases. But attacking dietary fat won't do any good at all -- It's now been established beyond all question, that obesity, and the secondary complications of obesity such as heart disease, diabetes, etc, are triggered by the body's reaction to carbohydrates -- NOT FAT. I repeat, eating fat doesn't make people fat -- excess carbohydrates (sugar, starch), when combined with a genetic susceptibility, makes people fat.
The anti-fat, anti-meat crusaders don't want to hear this. They'll argue til they're blue in the face, and they'll never consider the evidence, because their real motive is NOT our health, but serving a vegetarian ideological agenda. (Anti-smoking crusaders probably aren't motivated by health, either. But at least their advice is medically right.)

Is it possible for a socio-economic group to be doubly victimized? (/sarcasm)

that this supposed fatty food epidemic targets America's poorWAA! The poor 'ole poor people routine!
Why doesn't someone do a study on the percentage of obese people on welfare??
Make 'em weigh in, and if they're overweight, cut back on their food stamp allotment.

"Psssst! Hey bud, wanna cop a burger?"
Dealer throws open his overcoat with numerous foil lined pockets.
"I got spicy chicken, bacon cheeseburgers, trip whoppers wid da works. Name your poison." Sirens blare as a police unit screams to a halt in front of the illegal deal going down.
"Hello Meat Wagon," says the pot bellied LEO."Looks like I'm going to have to run you in."
"No sir, officer. I saved this just for you. Fresh this morning." says the dealer.
He hands the officer a Bavarian Creme and two bleberry cheese danish.

This likely upcoming assault on fatty foods is yet another example of the Left's attempt to micromanage the lives of Americans. The Left is simply stating, "You are too stupid to decide for yourself what is healthy food. You are not smart enough to know that a Big Mac has more fat grams and is less healthy than a salad. Therefore, your federal government will take care of you and tax these inconsiderate producers of various fatty foods."
Doesn't this quote essentially say the exact same thing?
ALL TIME CHILLING QUOTE OF THE DAY :
The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism,
but under the name of Liberalism
they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist Program
until one day America will be a Socialist Nation
without ever knowing how it happened----
Now, who on earth do you think would have audacity to say this publicly?
Norman Thomas, six-time Socialist Party presidential candidate
and one of the founders of the ACLU.That's Who!!!

Liberals hope that the fatty food 'sin tax' will help to drive Americans from a Quarter Pounder to a grilled chicken sandwichI care about my health. That's why I'm only eating burger made of pure Soylent Green(TM).
It's people ya know.

According to the governments Fatty Index test, Tom Cruise is overweight! Also, fatty foods don't make you fat, high sugar foods do and only when an individual chooses to over eat and not move off their couches.
I get so tired of the govnerment trying to protect me. All laws protecting us from ourselves (e.g., helmet laws)should be removed from the books. Stupidity is self correcting.

We knew it would happen. We smokers tried to tell America that the demonization of smokers was only the first step. The left intends to rule every aspect of our lives, and with the help of the media and liberal law makers and judges they will succeed.
They are wrong about fatty foods,BTW. Quite the opposite is true. The low fat craze is what has caused Americans to become more obese. What people fail to comprehend, and frankly weren't told is that low fat does not mean no calories.
So called demon fatty foods are the "real foods" that were put on this earth for us to eat. They are necessary for cell renewal and life itself.
This no fat craze of the left is more evil than some think! But I have no illusions that they will fail. We will pay dearly for our McDonald's fries real soon.
