"No one. Not even Ronald Reagan could get elected 20 years later. We are devolving, quickly, into yet another common tyranny. We have been flirting with Socialism since the 1930's, and will continue to embrace more and more Socialism and Statism until our every move is monitored and logged and our income is returned to us 'according to our need'."

THIS IS SUITABLE FOR FRAMING, AS IT IS THE QUINTESSENTIAL REPLY TO THOSE WHO THINK WE JUST BASH BUSH OUT OF BOREDOM, OR DUE TO INTELLECTUAL DEFICIENCIES.

How easy it is for the President to trash the Constitution and his oath then laugh about it to boot!

I think that disgusts me as much as the act.

If you are going to sign material you know is unconstitutional, how about a little solemn behavior. How about a little apologetic demeanor.

I won't hesitate" signing it, Bush said at a joint news conference with Salvadoran President Francisco Flores as the president wrapped up a four-day trip to Latin America. "It will probably take about three seconds to get to the W, I may hesitate on the period, and then rip through the Bush."

Gee that's a funny joke isn't it? Almost as funny as the joke he pulled on us when he duped us into believing that he'd veto this legislation if it ever made it to his desk. I'll bet he's got the press corps doubled over in laughter about how he's losing his conservative base, just like his father did.

"Well, let's just give up then. Suits me. I sure have plenty of other stuff to do to occupy my time."

No, we should never give up. We should let our President know that he ran as a CONSERVATIVE, and the reason we voted for him is he RAN as a conservative. The school bill was a disgrace, and furthur federalized the public schools with no accountability. CFR should be vetoed as Bush has the equity to do the right thing. And amnesty for illegals is beyond the pale.

that is the reason you won't vote for Bush then by all means go waste your vote on someone who won't win in the next election. He has said all the time he would sign--what made you think he wouldn't?

Perhaps you missed the Republican debates in 1999 and 2000 when Bush was defending against a strong challenge by John McCain and W. argued vociferously against McCain's "Unconstitutional" CFR. He said he was against it in no uncertain terms and he said he'd veto it if he was elected and the bill made it to his desk.

I agree with most of that, but I am still waiting to see what he actually DOES and SAYS about CFR and the "amnesty," which isn't really an amnesty, IMO.

Perhaps even long enough for me to get all old and drool-y and incontinent and uncaring about freedom since I am in a nursing home.

I'm trying to picture this -- honestly I am. :-)

Yeah, how about a moment of silence before you wipe your a$$ with the Constitution that brave men have sacrificed their lives for?

Maybe I should joke about how quickly I vote for his opponent in 2004 if he's a pro-gun dem, or leave it blank, or vote the dem anyway....

In all honesty, my vote is up for grabs. Bush MIGHT get my vote. Bush might NOT get my vote.

It will probably come down to the 1994 gun ban sunset. If he reupts it, I will not vote for him. If he doesn't, he's in the running.

Let's see... He said that any CFR bill must have paycheck protection. He said that any CFR bill must ban union money. He wanted the $1000 limit for individuals lifted. Where is that stuff? He said that he'd veto a bill that lacked key provisions like these. Where's that veto pen?

Oh yeah... And he swore to defend the Constitution. Knowingly signing an unconsitutional bill would be... oh, what's the word? ...lying? What do you think? Correct word?

Maybe some pretty HTML would cover up that blemish for '04.

I will tell you what frustrates me more about President Bush than anything else. He has a chance to go down in history as a great conservative leader. This was due in no small part to the outstanding way he handled the 9/11 tradgedy. This gave him center stage as a true leader of the best country on earth. 80%+ approval ratings, et al. But then he signed the Left Wing Teachers Union Consolidation of Power Act, when he could have easily forced the voucher alternative(which he promised)instead of allowing that NEA whore, Kennedy, to remove it. I grant you that he has yet to sign off on CFR, or amnesty, but when I think of all the good he could be doing, and how he appears hell-bent on squandering it, it is cause for serious introspection.

"Well, then, don't vote for him if that's how you feel."

Some alternative that is. This is supposed to make me happy?Let me ask you a question. And I don't mean this in a smart-a$$ way either> What is it going to take for the RNC to put up people who will do the right thing? Lott is useless.Hastert is just as bad. We run Bob(one foot in the grave, and a moderate big govt. liberal") against a monster who needed to be defeated. What do we have to do to get their attention? Serious answer, please.

What do you want me to say? If you don't like him, do not vote for him. I'm not in charge of convincing you who to vote for.

Remember this though:

Of course, he seems to be willing to depress his base for the 2002 midterms and to throw away his base's vote in 2004, so I hope he enjoys his witticism.

By Novembr most of the base GOP won't recall CFR and the worst parts will be on their way to being overturned.

Incorrect. When he was courting our vote in 2000, he promised he would NOT sign McCain / Feingold.

And I recall his chief objection was to unilateral disarmament to the unions, a concept that didn't survive this bill.
