WASHINGTON (AP) - House Republicans will propose a prescription drug benefit for seniors close to 60 percent more than the amount being sought by President Bush, the lawmaker charged with crafting it said Monday.

Calling the benefit ``past due,'' House Ways and Committee Chairman Bill Thomas said Republicans ``are looking at a number, very similar, slightly higher than the number we included in our last budget, which was $300 billion over 10 years.''

Socialism for seniors. When will Republicans learn they can NEVER outbid the Rats in giving some people other people's money. Keep it up Bill Thomas; there's a Speaker Gephardt in your future.

You know Bill, with the advent of viagra, you can cut the symbolic crap and actually drop to your knees to win the senior vote.

Cry havoc! and let bidding begin!

IMO, we are getting a taste of what baby boomers will demand from the Federal government as they become eligible for Federal benefits.

They will vote overwhelmingly to elect those who open the Federal purse for them.

I know baby boomers like I know the back of my hand. Believe me, we've just begun to see selfish.

Yet another welfare program. If this welfare plan goes into law, I think I'm going to start ripping off old geezers to replace the money the government stole from me.

They are all the same - out for money, power, & publicity, and the heck with the good of the country.

I might exclude Bob Barr & a couple of others, but not many.

This is frankly outrageous. If they keep this up, we will have to start fielding serious third party candidates in many Congressional Districts. Considering the escalating costs of new drugs, this is a down escalator to disaster.

These men took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Find one word in the Constitution that even suggests a Federal Right to subsidize the drug bills of some of us. There is none.

If your Congressman comes home this spring, to be visible in the District, confront him on this. They need to hear the outrage of the public, particularly when they are expecting gratitude from the supposedly bought voters! If they hear enough outrage, they will be intimidated like the pathetic cowards most of them are.

My Rep. is Jack Kingston, who is always entertaining on Hannity & Colmes, and who is a very nice person. When he first went to D.C., he did pretty well, but I think he's started having a bit too much fun "bringing home the bacon".

I'd rather do my own grocery shopping, thanks.
