If it was, as has been suggested, part of something bigger, the point of a plea is not to let the cat out of the bag. If the statements about swinging are true, and DW knew of the comings and goings at VD's he could have known who other people involved were, I imagine that others wouldn't want those little tid-bits bandied about.

Don't you fill the parents have any "culpability" here?

They may well be guilty of neglience,but we'll have to wait for actual facts to emerge before determining this for certain. All we have now are rumors and speculation.

That may be true, but it is irrelevant to the discussion at hand. All I have done is observe and record the darkness I have witnessed, and dressing up a little girl in a choker is very dark indeed.

Unfortunately for Westerfield, though, he's a white guy. He will not be able to play the "race card" on this one, and it will be the FACTS that determine his fate. Unlike in O. J.'s case.

I PERSONALLY don't give a damn if he is TWO white guys,a black guy,and a Eskimo guy,all in one package. All I care about is "Is he guilty of this murder?". If he is,I want to see him sit in a electric chair,and the switch set at "sizzle". I'd be more than happy to throw the switch myself.

Good Heavens. How do you debark a dog? Do people really do that? Is it some kind of surgery? A Weimeraner is a large hunting dog and might attack a stranger wandering through its house.

On the other hand, hunting dogs are smart with long scent memories. My Golden Retriever once allowed the local police to search my entire house without making a peep because our silent alarm had gone off, summoning the police. My husband was on the Plan Commission at the time and had received weekly packets from the city, delivered by a patrolman. My dog had met every policeman on the force and thought it was OK for them to be wandering around the house at 2 AM while we were safely asleep in bed. She just greeted them with a wagging tail and escorted them around until they found us.

That dog never forgot anyone she had met before. She would bark loudly at strangers, but would just wag at them at the second meeting.

I am. Those plastic chokers were a passing fad a few years back. I really did not think my daughter was heading to sluthood.

Grlfrnd, this is off topic. I am not a devout Christian, but I take my hat off to you. I do know how trying it can be to stick by one's religious beliefs in this crazy city in which we live.

Thanks gs. Believe it or not, the City has made me into a right wing traditional person. Seeing the excesses, gay agenda, pc polarization, race baiting all the time. Feh! I became conservative a couple of years ago, before it was cool (as they say on KSFO). And, though I am not Christian, I support Christianity and Christian beliefs. They are the groundwork of our wonderful country. And we *can* get it back, person by person.

Confirmed to be Danielle van Dam

DEHESA, CA - Authorities confirmed that the body found Wednesday near Dehesa Road is that of seven year Danielle van Dam. Volunteer searchers made discovery around 2:20pm.

“With today's confirmation that our beloved Danielle will never again be physically present in our lives, we are experiencing the depths of sadness, loss and grief which only parents who have lost children under similar circumstances can fully comprehend.

These emotions are being tempered by an overwhelming sense of gratitude and closure. There is not a more anxious feeling for parents than to not know where our children are. While the past seven years we've had the peace and confidence of always knowing where Danielle was and that she was safe, someone took that away from us almost four weeks ago. But now with love for an innocent child -- and for one another -- the community has brought her back to us, and for that gift we offer our most sincere and heartfelt thanks. Even though the final outcome is horrible, we could not have imagined the rest of our lives without this closure.

Love has conquered evil in our community. This is Danielle's legacy and we couldn't be more proud. As we were praying this morning with the incredible volunteer searchers who actually found our daughter, our personal prayer was that God would share our little angel with everyone who helped to find her.

Thousands of people have stepped forward in extraordinary ways since Danielle was abducted. The entire search effort was started by the Laura Recovery Center Foundation and later carried out by our local organization, the Danielle Search Center. More than 2,500 people generously donated their time and energy to the search, and countless more helped behind the scenes.

We also want to thank the San Diego Police Department for the thorough and caring approach they have given to Danielle's abduction and murder. They are among the finest individuals we've ever known.

Danielle was a very special, beautiful, loving little girl. We miss her desperately but find comfort in knowing that she is now safe again and at peace. For Danielle, our family, friends and neighbors, we thank you for unifying us into such a giving community. We will be forever grateful to all of you."

Remember, this is a husband and wife (stay at home mom) who moved from another town after selling a home for just over $100,000 and bought a new home for $400,000....bought a new car for $40,000 (Ford Excursion) and his job is estimated to pay no more than $125,000 per year. Another thread had a list of all the stuff they were selling at their old home...The movie deal is not far fetched. You can all jump on me for the rumor thing, but how do you make ends meet at $125,000/yr.(gross)and a mortgage of $300,000? That is a big jump in risk.

The thing that bugs me the most about this case is why did Westerfield wait until 9:30 the next morning to leave in the RV if he was the childs' killer?

I'm GUESSING that this was because 9:30AM was the normal time for him to leave on weekends,and he didn't want to draw attention to himself by leaving earlier.

He didn't know when Danielle would be missed. He didn't know when search dogs would start fanning out from the van Dam house, two doors away. He didn't know when police would knock on his door with a house by house search.

Of course he did. How could he not know this stuff?

Thank you for the comparison. For all we know Westerfield planted the rumors about the Van Dam's alleged activities. I am shocked by the overwhelming insinuations in this thread against the parents based on rumors. If you can recall, an innocent man was tried for the bombings at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta based on rumor.

I would think that there would be more conjecture about Westerfield, his background, his lifestyle and his motivations. Just where has he been for the last 50 years of his life, and what has he been doing.
