Is INSIGHT a reputable/well read magazine? I hope it is because main stream America could use a dose of the truth.

How about the Republican and Democratic party elites?

We kill our children and throw open our borders. This makes little sense.

Our government needs very uninformed citizens to operate.

On the other hand, Dr. Paul Ehrlich wrote a book titled "The Population Bomb" in the late 60s. It predicted that by now, we'd be without adequate food, water, clean air, gasoline, etc.

His dire predictions were wrong. Will other dire predictions also be wrong?

Some folks don't like immigrants, that come from non-european backgrounds. As for me, I don't like immigrants that come from terrorists regions & backgrounds.

Didn't Ehrlich propose we'd be reduced to mass cannibalism by 1995? Or was that some other "well respected futurist"? Never believe a word these guys say, they're stuff never comes true (both the "second" ice age and global warming were supposed to have put most of both coast lines under water by now), and their only answer when they don't is that "people must have headed my warning". If I weren't such an honest person "futurist" would be a very tempting profession, getting paid a lot of money to be full of crap and held 100% not accountable. Actually that's pretty tempting even with my honesty. I don't think I could keep a straight face through the "lectures" though.

Yup. We're going to bring in more Mexicans, Central Americans, people from Caribbean Islands......And Europe will bring in more Arabs and Muslims.

What a wonderful world this will be!

What’s really funny about this article is that the author cites certifiably disproven contentions to bolster his thesis!

The commission told President Ronald Reagan that our population was 200 million, which it labeled "already ecologically unsustainable," and recommended an immediate freeze on immigration… From the "ecologically unsustainable" 200 million in 1981, our population now is 281 million — and growing.

Since 1965's Ted Kennedy immigration bill, 85% of our legal immigrants have been non European. You really think this is right?

And this isn't even counting illegal alien immigrants who are probably even less European.

I am a fourth generation Californian. I have seen this state overrun. I don't like it any more than anyone else. However, while I agree with the prescription of controlling immigration and the observation of the damage it does to the nation's infrastructure and quality of life, the assertion of ecological unsustainability is patently absurd. We have more timber than ever. We can easily grow plenty of food and fiber. As (something of an expert on the topic), the principal cause of unsustainable changes in the environment is socialism: exotic species, real estate and resource value scams, fire suppression, Social Security, a constant need for a dependent class...

Heck, before we see a doubling of the US population, we will see America become a socialist country. Why, you ask? Because 80% of so called "hispanics" vote democrat, and black Americans vote for democrats 90% of the the time. And, as you already know, "hispanics" are the fastest growing portion of our population. Not only are "hispanics" the absolute largest group of "immigrants" and illegal aliens entering our country, as a group they are having far more children than whites ever dreamed of, and even more than black Americans.

Why will the US become a socialist country? Because the population groups that love the democrat socialist party are increasing in numbers much faster than those who are members of all other political parties that are anti socialism.

Open the borders wide! Here comes Big Brother!

Actually, immigration of the right age of people could really solve the entire social security funding problem with the US economy.

i have absolutely no problem with latino immigrants, they're hardworking and most try to assimilate. i employ a couple from el salvador to take care of my house.. they have one son who goes to public school and has wonderful grades. they don't blow up buildings, try to foist their religion on anyone, or hate our way of life. they love this country and that's good enough for me. all immigration shouldn't be condemned. the europeans can take the muslims and arabs.

On one of these immigration threads, will anyone ever tell me why no one wants to go after and majorly fine the corporations that employ illegals?????

Instead of bitching about mariachi music, start bitching that no one will ever touch the almighty produce companies.

You bet they think it is. I find this idea the most disturbing when thinking about immigration. I have no doubt that the powers that be have considered and/or will consider this as a possible solution to the fiscal problems. Would our own government sell out the nation to save doomed social experiments? I'm afraid of the answer.

Ahh but you see we just haven't noticed. 281 mil is unsustainable but it will take some time for the disasters to start, maybe another decade.

Pretty good huh? The more I think about it the more futurist seems like a good career choice. I'm tired of the preasure business applies to do things right, and teaching doesn't pay squat.
