A .22 short through the eyeball and then a convenient fire which destroys the body....
It's doable.

FYI

I saw the crash scene in the Memphis TV video. There were no skid marks in the road. The "pole" was not on the road, but maybe 40-50 yards off the road on a relatively flat grassy area. There was little reported collision damage to the car. Perhaps the fire already started and the pole merely stopped the car at a low speed.
Perhaps an incindenary device was remotely set off in the car cabin while she was driving. Or she stopped by the road and was pushed further off. For some reason she was unconscious--and the cabin was then torched.
Those are a few ideas I have. The stories generally read, as I assumed, that she hit a "pole" next to the road, like a traffic light. Untrue.

Katherine paid the big price. She messed with something bigger and smarter and meaner than she was. I almost never don the tinfoil headgear, but this was no accident. There was relatively little impact damage to the car, and what there was, was not typical of causing a fire, at least according to FNC.

"The car caught fire, but the gas tank did not explode, FBI agent J. Suzanne Nash testified Monday." Nothing to look at here people. MOVE ALONG!

A .22 short through the eyeball and then a convenient fire which destroys the body....Simpler and less traceable bound and fed a breathing mixture rich in Carbon monoxide. When unconcious the fire deatroys the body and removes any and all traces of restraints.
Vey doable

Hmmm. . . . the Fayette County Review says the initial Highway patrol report indicated the car burst into flames when it hit the pole. They appear to be backing away from that in the other story.
http://www.fayettecountyreview.com/display/inn_news/news6.txt Piperton Car Crash Investigated By FBI by Sherri Osteen The FBI is investigating a fiery car crash, which occurred south of Piperton early Sunday morning. Authorities were called to the intersection of Highway 72 and Highway 196 on February 10th at 12:53 A.M. where they found a 4-door, 1992 Accura Legend burning out of control. A female body discovered in the vehicle was burned beyond recognition. Sheriff Bill Kelley told the Review a report filed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol indicates the automobile was traveling westbound on Highway 72 when it veered off the road, struck a utility pole and immediately burst into flames.

Cars burst into flames all the time. I must have seen it happen a hundred times.
On TV...
To: Shermy
What is the likelihood of a one-car accident hitting a pole which created a fire so hot that the body couldn't been except through dental records? I'd say small, unless there was criminal involvement.

Either the center wing fuel tank blew up...
Or her rudder came off...
The NTSB is currently investigating the incident...
