dumb move if true. It looks petty and an attempt to shift the focus from Enron.

The source of this is the GAO. I don't trust most of the comments said by that agency.

Fleischer explained, "We tried to be gracious, but the last administration would not take graciousness."

You can't be gracious to white trash; they have no comprehension of the word or ability to display such qualities.

This sounds like it could be fun, Bush has been VERY patient and VERY adult about the whole thing. The Dem's have decided to start playing games, so he has decided that since they want to play hardball, he's gonna go on offense.

This is gonna be GRAND!! The "trashed White House" scandal, wonder what he'll go after next? Chinagate, pardongate? What's next, I'll be waiting in GREAT anticipation!!

On Sunday morning this story will be on the front page of every one of the 6 conservative papers in America, and likewise linked by conservative internet sites.

dumb move if true. It looks petty and an attempt to shift the focus from Enron. Besides, they had their chance MONTHS ago.

Nothing to see here. Just move on. . .

I read this article as democrats in the GAO whining about being called on to do their job, as opposed to going on partisan fishing expeditions in violation of separation of powers. Their job is to look after government property (in part), rather than to determine who talked to whom when about energy policy. It looks like they have stepped into another Karl Rove trap. Even though they were trying to strike back at the bad press they have been getting for overreaching on Enron, they have reminded everyone that they were asleep at the switch on something that was more their responsibility.

You know I think the plan is to get both Hillary and Bill as Bush knows they are a threat to AMERICA and himself. He may of been willing to let it go before the rats tried to pull the smear of Bush and Cheney.

I think it is probably a "subtle" warning to the RATS that if they really WANT investigations, then they'll GET them - in SPADES. I think it is a good tactic to start with something "minor" as a warning that there are bigger and better things to come. There are a lot of Clinton's RATS looking over their shoulder wondering if and when the NEW Justice Department will start stalking them. SOON I hope!

Sometimes it pays to hold your ammunition. The dems, especially the clintons, were given a marvelous pass to take the graciousness of the WH over their immature trashing of PUBLIC PROPERTY, with the expectation that they would return such graciousness with equal fairness and help re-establish a tone they had so helped to denigrate in our nation's heart and in the country.

But, no.

Those filthy vermin and their flying monkeys are going to get back in full, if they keep up the unfair aggression against our executive wing, from Enron to demanding private mtg information, they are going to receive an exposure that is going to topple their election chances this fall but BIG TIME. Just wait.

Like bin laden, the filthy dems have greatly underestimated how adept our President is, how GROWN-UP he and his staff are, and how unafraid this administration really IS of their nefarious and dirty dealings. Let it NEVER be said that these creepy jerks in the elite dem circles did not have a chance to clean up their act and fly right. Their digs, the sewer as it were, is about to undergo a cleaning unless things happen mighty fast this next week.

And as for Walker-he was trusted by our President to fly honorably, instead he has chosen to use his office as a tool for the dem party, JUST like he did during the clinton years. Big mistake. This man's days in office are numbered.

I guess if the GAO is busy working on Hillary, they won't have time to file suit on Enron... sorta like the IRS helped Bill discipline his detractors.

Email your thoughts to Carville and McAuliffe, they will use them as talking points.

From the Salon.com article The White House Vandal Scandal That Wasn't

While cautious GSA staffers won't issue a blanket exoneration of the Clinton team, Bernard Ungar, the agency's director of physical infrastructure, told Salon the media clearly exaggerated the extent of the damage. According to the terse GSA statement that formed the basis of Ungar's conclusion, "the condition of the real property was consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy.

From today's article:

Bernie Ungar, a GAO director in charge of the investigation, said, "White House folks suggested that we cast as wide a net as possible."

Ungar said Bush aides urged the agency to expand its scope to include the White House's East Wing — where Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) had her offices as First Lady — but investigators stuck to the West Wing and the Eisenhower office building.

No? You don't say! You mean you don't think Bush should have slashed and burned everything east of the Mississippi the day he was sworn in, and you think he shouldn't have hung Bill and Hill on the Mall?

Say it ain't so, Rep. / sarcasm off.

I agree with you 100%. In fact, did Pres. Bush lie to us when he said, "...only a prank or two, but that's OK"? Is that their idea of being gracious??

I never did like "the new tone" ... you gotta be tough to be respected by your enemies!

I suspect that Bush ordered the GAO last year to conduct a low level investigation. To only call him if they found some proof.
The GAO released this on a weekend, just like Clinton is famous for doing. I think it's a lie to make Bush look partisan. The GAO is at war with Bush.
