Spokesman Mike McCarron said "when they went to stop him, he didn't stop." [from newsday.com article about the incident]
Well, duh!

Two things strike me from this. 1. Why the hell did they let him get away? 2. Why do suicide bombers go to the most secure every day places to carry out their mission? They know security is going to be there, what fools. Unless it has something to do with burning up evidence upon crashing in the plane. The first wave of suicide bombers in the US has gotten underway. :(

"Wonder, really, how he could leave so freely---what incompetence. " Hah! If you think that is "incompetence", just wait untill welfare recipients (often referred to as federal employees) who are thoroughly trained in "incompetence" take over the function in the coming months.

Could of been all most anything residue from feritlizer from smokeless gun powder. A lot of common house hold chemicals are use to make explosives. Get any of them on your shoe they could show up as residue.

Firecracker residue on his shoes? LOL! This is San Francisco. If the guy was Chinese and from China Town, he could get firecracker residue by just walking the streets and alleys.

Fox is reporting that "rdx" was found on the shoe. What is this?

A plastic explosive. doesn't seem to be they could get lab results back that fast on residue. Some ones just guessing.

Cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also referred to as cyclonite, or hexogen, RDX is a white crystalline solid usually used in mixtures with other explosives, oils, or waxes; it is rarely used alone. It has a high degree of stability in storage and is considered the most powerful and brisant of the military high explosives. RDX compositions are mixtures of RDX, other explosive ingredients, and desensitizers or plasticizers. Incorporated with other explosives or inert material at the manufacturing plants, RDX forms the base for the following common military explosives: Composition A, composition B, composition C, HBX, H-6 and Cyclotol.

l the shoes/sneakers/clothing you wear at the shooting range give the same results? How about your hands and hair? Makes no difference. If it "makes the dog sit down" you get a closer look, as will your shoes/sneakers/clothing AND luggage.
This happened to me. I used a bag that I had previously had used to carry some handguns (freshly shot) and about 50 spent cartridges. They were not in the bag but some of their residue was. I seem to remember some lady rubbing a device on the zipper and the zipper pull and got an alert. They went through the bag and I was on my way. All before 9/11.

Now if this mystery man had been a retired Marine who had been awarded the Medal of Honor, the "security" goons would have held him for questioning.

We can expect lots of speculating just like there was with Reid. This is probably going to turn out to be another Reid who got his marching orders after last night's sou.

RDXMilitary explosive - Composition B cyclotrimethylenetrinitomene (sp) major component of mines bombs grenades shells
I suspect someting a little les sinister, like the guy walked over a freshly fertilized lawn which will show up as explosives because of the nitrates in the fertilizer

Then how did they know he had that on his shoes? Shouldn't they be on the lookout for a barefoot guy?

It would be a lot easier to give him that benefit of the doubt if he hadn't FLED. Sheesh.

"RDX"
That is a type of black powder. It is used in muzzel loading firearms.
