[....your religious beliefs enter the target zone.] I sure don't, for, as Hugh Hewett goes on to say: [The triumph of sneering agnosticism is pretty much complete within elite media these days. It is an ugly thing.] So that is your religion, Sneering Agnosticism? Where can I find a local Sneering Agnostic church? I'm intrigued ;)

Dr. Laura Teams Up With The MormonsPosted on 1/2/02 3:08 PM Pacific by Saundra Duffy
Dr. Laura Schlessinger Transcript Dec. 10, 2001 Blanket Donation by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Dr. Laura: I am Dr. Laura Schlessinger. I do welcome you to the show today. I am my kids mom. Starting the show a little differently today. I have some surprise guests because since early this morning I have been at my foundation, The Dr. Laura Schlessinger Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children, stuffing bags with some 15,000 blankets, 15,000 blankets each beautiful and each different, hand-made donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It used to be easier to say their name. They were called Mormons. But now its long. Its like Schlessinger. You have to really be committed. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints out of Utah, these people just saved us like angels coming from heaven..."

Utah is a theocracy. So what? Well, if that is true, it would be a big problem. You are saying that Utah is a "theocracy", which (I assume) means among other things that democracy doesn't exist, that Utah's government is appointed by the Mormon church, and that non-Mormons are imprisoned, persecuted, and/or forcibly converted.
If this is true, there needs to be federal action. Let me know.

The fundamentalists of the left have used the tragedy of the fall to renew their assault on faith in America. The Mormons are a handy target, because they are both visible and different. Which is why all people of faith are called on to reject appeals to prejudice of the sort that the Los Angeles Times tossed off without so much as a backward glance. If the Times can get away with labeling Utah a "theocracy," then surely ever other newspaper in America can do the same.
Excellent, point. Thanks for the article, John.

Thanks. I appreciate the mention of charity work done by the church, and remind people this is true of most churches.

Generally speaking an "activist" is code for leftist(ie good)
"fundamentalist" means an evil rich white(most likely southerner)or someone with a 5th grade education, and has been brainwashed by the vrwc, and whats to turn the United States into a giant consentration camp.
Oh I almost forgot as we all know "fundamentalist" see family gatherings as a great place to meet chicks.

Maybe I don't read the right elite media, but it's always seemed to me that the Mormons had a glowing reputation generally. The most vicious Mormon-bashing I hear regularly is on Christian radio. Try "The Bible Answer Man," for example. Get Hank Hanegraaff started on Robert Schuller sometime and it won't take 30 seconds before he starts griping about how Schuller once allowed Orrin Hatch to speak from the pulpit of the Crystal Cathedral. Hank also has hosted guests who have authored books on how to "save" Mormons. Many other Christian shows follow the same script.

They lied, covered up, and destroyed documents. What documents? Enron? That was Arthur Anderson. Completely different company. In fact, Anderson Consulting changed their name over a year ago to Accenture.

That sounds about right.
To: Corporate Law
As a group, Mormons are politically conservative (pro-life, pro-traditional family, pro 2nd amendment, etc.), are very family-focused, very patriotic, and raise their children to be nice, responsible and productive citizens. Is it no wonder that the atheist anti-American intelligentsia scorns them? This is all part of the media intelligentsia's efforts to win the war of ideas by "ridiculing their opponents" (Right out of the Saul Alinksy/Hildebeaste playbook)
I happen to think some Mormon beliefs are pretty wacky, and some of their practices (to me) border on cult-like. Since I'm Roman Catholic, I'm sure there's a Christian or two who would say the same thing about my church--LOL.
But having said that, I am not so much concerned about the theology of Mormons--they have a right to worship the way they want, and I have a right to not join them. They are very good citizens in general, and they're not dragging the U.S. towards Sodom and Gomorrah (they're dragging in the opposite direction, in fact).
Good piece by Hugh--as usual.
