Good point: the prime time evening news 5 to 7 lineup out there is now "I-don't-believe-in anything-but-ratings" O'Reilly; Hannity and Ultra Liberal; Greta Von Cistern. Good enough for any liberal. Ailes is taking DEMOgraphics seriously.

So why are the folks at Fox now messing with that formula? Recent hires indicate a new direction: glitzy star power over quality. Conservatives are concerned, and Fox had better be careful.

That was exactly the point I made to Roger.
Fox built its name on no-name journalists of integrity and as they succeeded, so did Fox. What did Fox do with that success? Ailes took millions of dollars to buy big name Clinton/OJ apologists! Why didn't he continue the successful business model of simply finding no-name liberal journalists with integrity (like O'Reilly)if he's so concerned about "right wing" condemnation from the liberal media?

You know, I don't know much about television, but I noticed that Paula got moved to the 10 PM slot and the prime-time news was given to Sheperd Smith. The 10PM slot is not where their biggest chunk of viewers is.

I am interested to see if they will force Greta to toe the "fair and balanced" line. If she does, fine. If not, she will be given the late Sunday slot and marginalized.

Also, I really want to see how good the Fox make up people can make her look. HAR!

Which was rich coming from Greta, who never wants anyone to talk about her fervent belief in Scientology.

Enough said about Greta.

The day it was confirmed that geraldo was hired is the day I e-mailed them and said they lost one viewer. Conservatives have to be careful not to be sucked in when someone says something they (conservatives) "want" to hear, because, invariably, we will be betrayed. The present admin is a good example. Watch what they "do" not what they say.
Re-instating food stamps??? The bologna method, one slice at a time!!!

I get up to date news right from this forum.

The accusation that Fox is right wing is only logical from the ultra-left viewpoint of the "journalists" on the other networks. Fox is at best middle of the road.

Hiring Whorealdo & Van Cistern are not moves that appeal to me.

I quit watching FNC after seeing 2 of Whoraldo's 'war segments'. That and the over-glitz finally got to me. I don't even want to think of the intellect that's behind VanSusteren. Rivera's reporting from Afghanistan was bleeding demagoguery at it's worst. Like we went to Afghanistan because our feelings were hurt. The decision that brought us to Afghanistan was a somber and calculated one, based upon the murder of 5,000 Americans civilians through an act of war. It was certainly not the piney emotions typified in Whoraldo's reporting. His reporting was simply off the mark. It was an affront to the gravity of the situation. Someone needs to tell Fox it's not the 1970s. The nation and the television media have grown-up.

Wrong, wrong, and still wrong. Fox is brilliant. They will gain more audience away from the left by having those Geraldo and Gretta fans tune into Fox. Fox also will not let these left leaning reporters lean to the left and will keep them honest and on center. This eliminates them from the airwaves of the left and moderates them. This also makes it more difficult for the left and CNN types from claiming Fox is to far to the right. At the same time Fox will keep its base because conservatives are not going to watch ABCNNBCBS for any reason. Fox maintains its conservative base, weakens the competition, brings in a few more left leaning viewers to watch Fox that will change their mind when they can hear the truth from all of Fox and create more centrist and more conservative viewers. This is brilliant and just what Fox needs to do to compete and gain more market share. While MSNBC leans left their sister cable CNBC leans a little right now and than and even more with Alan Keys soon to start his show. Even CNN has observed they played the Clinton left wing stand to long and have lost to many sponsers and viewers since 9/11 and are starting to tone their leftist views down a tiny amount. What we need now is a blatant ultra right leaning network to start up. This would take some viewers away from Fox but would help the GOP and America and enhance Fox and further errode the credibility of the left and RAT DMC mouth pieces. We need a Texas or Southern based news network away from the beltway and New York and California. Is there anyone up to the task to be the new Right wing version of Ted Turner? Rush rules the radio waves and we need the same new cable type network now while conservatives are on a roll. So what if the left claims propaganda while they practice it and lieing to the American public daily. We need another network to tell ABCNNBCBS to just shut the #@$8 up!

Secure your base, then move toward the middle adopting as much of your opponent's base as you to win. Have'nt we heard of this strategy before?

You are right, this guy is right on the money. I think, cnn 's strategy is to grab zahn, hoping FOX will retaliate, and grab a poison from them(greta). cnn has succeeded greatly, FOX took not only the bait, but hook, line and sinker. There's also a saying: Those who grab all(FOX got greedy by trying to get a peice of the liberal action from cnn), will lose all(their base the conservatives). So beware, FOX, you are not indespensable, your rating will only remain high as long as your base is with you.

I'll be heading to MSNBC to see Alan Keyes who is going to be her competitor.

Isn't choice wonderful? This I think is the most useful observation here.
Thanks for the tip. I too will be checking out that option.

Yes, I'm worried.

FOX should be, too! They had the bull by the horns and now they have grabbed it by the tail by hiring unabashed Liberals for major slots.

It was bad enough having a substantial number of very liberal commentators and analysts, plus "equal balance" from people the likes of Alan Colmes. Why watch a featured news show with a Liberal flake like Greta when you can turn to Keyes or just read a book?

I will not watch Liberals hog the limelight again and control the discussions - FOX or no FOX. I will turn it off, go to another channel or do something else.

FOX better wise up or it will start into a free fall like CNN and just be another member of the same old, tired Liberal crowd.

I like the Saturday morning financial shows,Fox and Friends, and Britt Hume from 6-7,thats it.

My favorites also, I'm still disturbed that they don't replay Bulls & Bears on Sunday like they used to before 9/11 at around 9 am EST. Now it's on at 7 am EST, too early on a Sunday for me.
I'll watch Alan Keyes at 10 on the 21st, but I'll have to flip back to Greta during commercials just to see how nauseating she is.

Fox has demonstrated that a large fraction of the news-junkie audience will be attracted to "fair and balanced" and to shows which give voice to conservative views. With Alan Keyes' show on MSNBC, Lawrence Kudlow on CNBC, and rumors about CNN hiring some conservatives, it appears the network news managers have figured this out. My personal opinion is that O'Reilly and H&C have become stale with too much confrontation, not enough issue/ideology exploration. After 911, Jerry Rivers had the best discussion show on, i.e. his guests were the most knowledgeable and he allowed a long-form discussion of the issues. MSNBC probably has the best Pentagon coverage. My guess is Greta the witch will fail on Fox. Liberals disgust with conservative ideas is so visceral, they won't be able to bring themselves to tune into FNC.

I like the way Greta talks out of the side of her mouth. It reminds me of the old show Mr. Ed.

Another new talk show on CNBC at 8p est, America Now, with hosts Kudlow and Kramer, recently caught my interest.

Their a bit 'rough around the edges' and far as facilitating the dialogue (newbies to the 'talk' format), but they have been lining up some pretty good guests.

Check them out if you get a chance...

America Now is not too bad, I listen to Kramer's radio show everyday, although he can be grating, I don't mind him, I'm kind of a stock junky anyways.

As far as Greta is concerned, as a bad as she is, I really cannot stomach her husband. He looks like he could pass for one of the Rodham boys.
