That's OK, Buddy, if I had to live anywhere near Hillary I would consider running out in front of a car, too.

ROFL! Can't you just picture Buddy making a run for it?

Dear Mr. Wind:

Thank you for your recent e-mail in regard to Socks. The Clinton family appreciates your concern. To make this time of transition as easy as possible for Socks, the family decided that it would be best, while the Washington residence is being readied for occupancy, if he stayed with someone that he knew and with whom he has spent a great deal of time in the last eight years. Betty Currie who knows Socks well and shares the family's concern for Socks' well-being offered to take Socks to her home. I understand that he is quite content and settling in very quickly.

Sincerely yours,
Alice J. Pushkar
Director of Correspondence
for Senator Clinton

Mrs. Clinton is facing criticism because now that she is a Senator she could not get the gifts. On Friday the Clintons announced that they would pay $85,000 for the gifts that they kept. Gifts include furniture given by the ex-wife of Marc Rich, whom Clinton pardoned, china from Steven Spielberg, a golf driver from Jack Nicholson, and a portrait of Buddy, the Clinton's dog, taken by an artist near the Clinton's home in Chappaqua, NY.

No doubt the driver of the car that hit Buddy will be sued.......clintons never miss a chance for extra dollars. When is the next fund raiser to pay for the dog's burial expenses?

I'm still looking around for confirmation. 2 Ds just said it was seen on another thread. I'm starting to think I dreampt (is that a word?) this up. I'm convinced the clintons are controlling the release of this story for maximum effect.

My first thought was Arkancide. My second thought is that the driver of the car better go into hiding for fear of catching the Arkansas flu.

The title of the thread says Buddy's dead. I haven't heard the news report of it yet, so I don't know.

Vaguely reminds me of what Winston once said to Lady Astor...she said to him, "Winston, if I was your wife, I'd put poison in your coffee." He replied, "If I were your husband, I'd drink it."

Sounds to me like Buddy was doing a Steve McQueen and didn't make it to Switzerland.

Regards, Ivan

NBC Early Morning reported he had been killed by a car. That was just before 5 Eastern. I'm either losing my mind or we have the makings of Buddy-gate in a massive cover-up.

My #92 was just a joke. I have no news about the location of your mind. Where did you last have it? It sometimes helps to retrace your steps, but you can't do that without a mind. This is so Catch-22.

Doncha just hate it when this happens?

Thank you. I really was starting to doubt. Looks like NBC is keeping their end of the bargain in keeping the clintons in the news.

CLINTON'S DOG "BUDDY" IS MEDIA'S PET

Newly-Named White House Pooch is Tops in News Coverage

President Clinton's new dog, a chocolate Labrador puppy now named "Buddy," has been a media star for the 12 days since word spread of his adoption by the Commander-in-Chief. A CMPA analysis of 37 major newspapers reveals 240 references to the presidential pooch since December 6, or 20 per day. Socks, the venerable White House cat, was mentioned in 71 news items during the same period -- although those stories focused on the First Feline's reaction to the new White House "petting order."

Not only is Buddy chasing Socks out of the headlines, he is also outshining most of the prospective candidates for the 2000 presidential election. (See Chart.) Only Vice President Al Gore (282 stories) was more visible than Buddy during the period we examined, largely due to his involvement in the Kyoto global warming conference and the controversy over his role in inspiring the lead character in "Love Story."

Buddy is also garnering more publicity than the last Canine-in-Chief, the Bush's springer spaniel, Millie. Millie's best press (88 stories) came in March, 1989, when she gave birth to several puppies. The arrival of her memoirs ("Millie's Book") in bookstores in September, 1990, was cited in 53 stories.

How long can Buddy's media honeymoon last? Not forever, says CMPA President Bob Lichter. "Right now, the press corps is smitten with a case of puppy love. But as all newcomers to the White House learn, the media like to keep their subjects on a short leash. Buddy should enjoy this time -- in a couple of months, he won't be the hot dog he is today."

If the locals start leaving flowers at the side of the Clintons house, I just may get up from my sickbed, stagger over there, and hurl.....
