Shortly after 9/11 when all the illegal immigrant terrorists were comming to light in the news, I did remember Pat's warnings. He was RIGHT about illegal immigration. I like the man, he is not a fence sitter. He answers questions and is honest unlike most politicians.

This is probably going to get lost in the sheer volume of this thread, but what, I say again, what is with the obsession certain Catholics (Sobran, Buchanan) have with whiteness? The word "Catholic" means "universal," not white. Not only that, but the values that Pat rails against are those of the urban, upper middle class, white Europeans and Americans. In sub-Saharan Africa and South America, on the other hand, Christianity is vibrant. If our atheist intelligentsia want to contracept itself out of existence, people like Buchanan should celebrate. He claims to be a devout Catholic, and yet he throws an incredible fit that we are being inundated with Catholic Mexican immigrants. Good heavens, if the 16th century Spanish monarchy had thought like Buchanan, they'd have made no effort to convert their Indian subjects, since Christianity obviously goes with whiteness. A more important question is this: Pat Buchanan is scared to death that those awful brown people will outbreed the West, which is contracepting itself out of existence, and yet...

Pat does have a valid point. Nations are generally formed around some ethnic core. They can assimilate newcomers, and the understanding of what the core is may change as new immmigrants arrive. But if the ethnic core becomes a minority, the possibility of fragmentation arises, particularly if different ethnic groups are concentrated in different geographic areas. Even if fragmentation is not an issue, interethnic frictions increase, because it's understood that cultural hegemony is at stake. I don't know if we can escape this fate. The US may be the last of the great Western empires to break up, and as with so many of them -- Britain, France, Spain, Russia -- the break up will continue in the homeland what began overseas. The fact that we find it so hard to discuss this may be a sign that we don't have a clue as to how to prevent it. I suppose it could also be seen as a sign that our assimilative powers are -- for now -- still working.

It's scarey to post a reply in a 700+ thread without reading all of the posts, but here goes: The problem is not completely that we have immigrants, although immigration needs to be brought under control. The problem is that we have no history. When I was schooled from 1959-1972 in the public schools, history was a subject in every single grade except my senior year of high school. I was given a heritage. I knew from whence my country came, the wars it had been through, the blood that had bought it, and the traditions and values that we held as a people.

Today, as I take my high school children to school, children whom I have taken great pains to educate in history, I am utterly amazed at their lack of education in history. They and their friends have no idea when and where the World Wars occurred, or the Civil War, or why these wars occurred, or why American entered into them.

Secondly, we have truly lost the very freedoms that we have for so long cherished. One need only read a thread on the WOD to find a post on the state of our constitutional rights.

So, what does an immigrant child find when he or she grows up in America? First, he finds that he is shaken down for drugs by the time he is eight, and that the police are the enemy and that the constitution means nothing. Secondly, he learns no heritage or culture superior to the one which he will inherit from his parents. He learns no history for the battle for freedom which his new country has endured in which he can take pride and in which he can be a part.

It is these problems, not the immigration itself, that will destroy America. It is the loss of our national history and heritage, and the loss of our freedom, experienced in a very personal and profound way by the new immigrants, that will destroy us.

Patrick J. Buchanan-Prophet supreme. Only those in total denial or with their heads buried in the sand or up their unowhats, will fail to see the obvious that Mr. Buchanan is putting under the microscope, where all who can see will see. I could never in a thousand years put it all together as Pat has, but his vision is just what I have seen materialising.

I hope he has included some possible treatments for this disease in his book. Being warned that the sky is falling, does not provide those who heed with the instructions and material needed to perform preventative maintenance.

A synopsis of El Plan stipulates: 1) We are Chicanas and Chicanos of Aztlan reclaiming the land of our birth (Chicana/Chicano Nation); 2) Aztlan belongs to indigenous people, who are sovereign and not subject to a foreign culture: 3) We are a union of free pueblos forming a bronze Chicana/Chicano) Nation; 4) Chicano nationalism, as the key to mobilization and organization, is the common denominator to bring consensus to the Chicana/Chicano Movement; 5) Cultural values strengthen our identity as La Familia de la Raza; and 6) EPA, as a basic plan of Chicana/Chicano liberation, sought the formation of an independent national political party that would represent the sentiments of the Chicana/Chicano community.

Hi, I am not a fan of Pat. But on the issue he raised about immigration he is 100% correct.
I live in CA and we are invaded by immigrants and many more illegal immigrants.
The illegal ones get all the rights a US citizen once they are in the southern states. Every right except the right to be here.
They eat up a ton of our budget. There children use $10,000 per child for public school education.

I noticed most that think the issue is garbage are NOT from the southern border states.
It is real and they breed like rabbits. Poor under educated people often do. It's free!

Thought you might want to know. It is a real invasion and as long as they vote Democrat the southern states will let them have a lot of the public's money.

I find it extremely disturbing that Pat Buchanan would be writing such a book.

I mean, think about it: by definition our country was a nation of immigration and how different ethnic and racial cultures mixed to create a uniquely American identity.

His views are exactly that of Americans between 1840 and 1924 when waves of immigrants from Ireland, Eastern Europe and Southern Europe showed up en masse in the USA seeking a better life than their native homelands. Does anymore remember the phrase No Irish need apply? Or the perjorative words Dago, Wop, Spic, and so on? Or the way Americans poorly treated Chinese and Japanese immigrants on the US West Coast early in the 20th Century?

Indeed, I really wonder does Buchanan understand his Irish roots. His ancestors probably came to the USA during the time of the Irish Potato Famime of the 1840's; that wave if Irish immigrants were treated just as badly as today's Mexican immigrants, if not more so.

I'll say this though: this book isn't going to sell in any large city that has a long-established ethnic enclave (New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, etc.).
