Fuel Dump Inconsistent with Lack of Distress Call
copycat's litter box ^ | 11/12/01 | copycat

The latest from government bureaucrats like Pataki, and their willing accomplices here at FR is that "Since the pilot dumped his fuel, it must have been an accident."

Unfortunately for those who would argue this theory, we have already learned that there were NO distress calls or unusual communications of any kind.

Pilots wwould dump fuel if they had a mechanical failure and planned to return to the airport. What are the odds that a pilot would dump his fuel and NOT decide to inform the tower of his decision? (Corollary question...How easy is it to radio the tower of trouble?)

In addition, eyewitness accounts clearly state that the right wing of the plane was seen to explode and take out the tail. An accident? I think not...

"I addressed that on the original post, but reading comprehension is an individual talent. "

Relax Dipsh*t,

I was agreeing with you.

If anyone still thinks this is nutty, so be it.

The same people thought it was nutty to believe anything other than the first anthrax case was from drinking some stream water when they were told to believe that.

Fuel Dump

The wing fell off; Could that have done-the-dump?

My comments regarding reading comprehension were not directed at you. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

Do you seriously believe you will get farther ahead by running off in the wrong direction?

It has not been established what is the right and wrong direction at this point.

I enjoy exploring the more intriguing possibilities in any situation...it stretches the mind. Some people have a problem with that.

Then the pilot would have had time to flip the transponder to the hijack code.

(ooops! sorry, wrong number...)

Flying with one engine increases rudder stress dramatically. Under designed rudder then fails I guess… It failed at the base where it is attached where there is maximum stress.

I'm on the fence myself. But if a large bird, such as a goose or etc. happened to get sucked into the engine, catastrophic failure could happen.

Why it COULD BE a terrorist event:

A few things to consider:

A very large percentage of air crashes are weather related. This was not. It was either a structure failure, sabotage or an intentional explosion.

The great majority of strucural crashes are preceded by some indication and communication of trouble. This crash was not.

There was a sudden explosive event that caused very wide distribution of debris. How many structural failures have there been that look like this? Perhaps a few, but MORE than the number of bombings? I think not.

This leaves aside the facts of our current "al-Qaeda" situation: Target-rich NYC: Lots of Americans, lots of Jews, lots of financial disruption, lots of press and fiery images. Also, a large (bombers don't usually go after small planes) US flagged carrier. Also, with sudden retreats in Afghanistan, Al-Qaeda wants a counter-attack, now. I figure it's 50-50 that this was a terrorist event.

Do you belive it is possible that the pilot executed a fuel dump but did not contact the tower?

ok, here's one more theory that I have heard speculated on not once but three times today on the radio. Everyone knows the sound bite from Madison Square Garden, where Michael Moran, the NY firefighter says "Osama Bin Laden, you can kiss my royal Irish a** " . As it turns out he introduced himself as being from Rockaway (where this plane went down). Coincidence or revenge???

That's fair enough. What is your opinion of those who are CERTAIN this was an accident?
