WASHINGTON -- FedEx packages containing a white powder and the threat: "This contains anthrax. You're going to die," arrived Thursday morning at more than 200 abortion clinics in the Midwest and along the East Coast.

The packages, sent overnight from drop boxes in Virginia and Philadelphia, mark the second mass mailing signed by the Army of God, a group of antiabortion extremists who have claimed responsibility for killing doctors who perform abortions and for bombing clinics.

Here we go again. I guess PP supporters didn't get enough publicity last month when they mailed the fake antrax letters to themselves, huh?

Using Fed-Ex will leave a trail to whomever sent tthese packages. If there are no arrestes for threatening anthrax by the end of today then one may presume that the packages were from Planned Parenthood.

I think everyone here is too quick to immediately assume, without evidence, that these letters and packages were self-generated by pro-abortion groups. Still, I wouldn't put it past them, and their whole emphasis on using this as an opportunity for putting pressure specifically on Ashcroft does raise my suspicions.

Glazier and officials from other organizations that received letters Thursday--and have been contending for years with bomb scares and other threats--said they have asked since June for a meeting with Ashcroft. Abortion-rights groups bitterly opposed Ashcroft's nomination to the nation's top law enforcement job out of concern that his personal opposition to the legalization of abortion would get in the way of his mandate to uphold the law.

During his confirmation hearings Ashcroft promised to meet with concerned groups.

"We feel we have a compelling concern not only for reproductive health clinics but for the country on the whole," said Glazier--whose name was used on the return addresses of packages sent to 132 affiliates. "If some terrorist is going to do this for us, who is the next target? Who will not be prepared the way we have been prepared?"

Yup, sure seems like they need some attention, poor things, from the big, bad anti-abortion AG.

It also appears, from the wording of the article, that the senders used Planned Parenthood's FEDEX account number -- so unless they made some other mistakes the packages are probably not traceable.

Yes, it does seem to say that the packages were sent using PP's account number. The question is, of course, how did they know it? If those numbers were that easy to come by, you would think that there would be a rash of fraudulent mailings all through the system for all sorts of reasons. hmmm... It must not be that much of a problem for FedEx. Otherwise, they would have to have another system for billing.

*Abortion_list bump

I get asked all the time: “How do I get on this bump list?” Well the answer is you can’t! The FreeRepublic Master Bump List is not a list of people who get notified about a topic appearing on FreeRepublic but it is a list of topics that you can click on and have posts relevant to those topics displayed to you. There are many topics like “WOD_list” (War On Drugs) or “Homeschool_list” (Stories that Homeschoolers may be interested in) or “Homosexual Agenda” (A list of articles related to that topic). And they all appear on the The FreeRepublic Bump List

When you are reading an article you can add it to the list by posting a reply to that topic and in the “TO” box put the name of the list you want it to appear on preceded by an “*”. For example if you want the article to appear on the War on Drugs list then put “*WOD_list” in the “TO:” box instead of someones screen name. You can also put it on several lists by separating the list names with a simi-colon “;”. Then when you want to see the list go to The FreeRepublic Master Bump List and click on the link for that list.

This story is a complete fabrication. Standard procedure for these folks. If they're caught, hey, its just a staff writer sacrificed for the cause.

This has all the hallmarks of a disinformation campaign and will be used to discredit and demonize true Christians who would not send anthrax to anyone.

Nobody but pro baby killers would stoop to this!

Was it the pro baby killers that murdered the abortion doctors in Florida, Georgia and New York? If so there is a man wrongly convicted of the murder of Dr. Gunn sitting on Florida's Death Row.

The killing of Abortion doctors and sending anthrax to abortion clinics is terrorism and the Pro-Life Terrorists who have killed doctors and sent anthrax to clinics should be hunted down in our War on Terrorism.

This is correct. I would bet (a large sum) that they are responsible for carrying this out themselves. But in the meantime, tears are rolling down my cheeks, like boiling hot diarehhea.

How can you be so sure that:

1. Pro-lifers are responsible.

2.That what they sent is really anthrax ?

Im sure other inquiring minds on this thread would like to know as well.

There is, as far as I know, no evidence at all that anyone has sent any anthrax to any abortion mills, only that letters threatening to contain anthrax have been sent.

President Bush said that even sending letters that threaten to contain anthrax is terrorism. He also said that the government would go after all forms of terrorism. Now, if you support our President you must support his effort to end all terrorism. But perhaps you one of those people that supports Pro-Life Extremists when they kill abortion doctors and send anthrax letters to clinics.
