As some of you know, I am a FL certified teacher, a lifelong former Dem and now an independent voter. I am also a former member of the teachers' union.

I have my own gripes about the union, and I discussed such in a PRO-Jeb Bush editorial I wrote, available on my profile page, called: "The Jeb Bush Nobody Knows - Part 1." You can click on my screen name if you want to see this editorial.

The reason I posted this letter I found on the NEA's web site is because:

If there are some "anti-war [despite the fact we've been attacked] teachers" lurking or posting on this site, who happen to be unaware of the teacher union president's official position with respect to this war we are fighting as a result of having been attacked, then, it is my sincere hope such teachers will find out, here on FR:

The teacher union president officially supports GW in this war on terrorism [even though I myself have never seen nor heard this supportive position mentioned to date in any mainstream media].

To ALL: It's a little early for me, but of course, you know what I meant to say about myself is: I am formerly a lifelong Dem.

I have to say that I'm a little surprised by this strong show of support by the NEA. Even a cynic would have a hard time criticizing this kind of support from the teachers' union. Still, I bet there are more than a few political leaders in the NEA who are in anguish over this vocal show of support by their union.

Thank you for posting this. It is obvious the media are trying to divide the nation. At every turn we must keep the unity going and debunk the lies that we hear over the airways.

Peter Jennings and the ABC president are first on my list of those who must go.

Well summer, this is a nice sentiment, but teachers with independent minds are not going to blindly follow the NEA when it comes to subjects that are not related to education. If they criticize the war, most likely they are doing it out of their own moral convictions.

Dear Summer: While I am impressed by this unprecendented show of support for a Republican president, I will reserve my judgement for later. There are far too many public school teachers who embrace their college brainwashing for them to suddenly see the light and become sane. During the 1992 election teachers were "encouraged" to watch a campaign video for Clinton/Gore. After watching the video they were "encouraged" to make a donation by signing a paper and making a pledge. If they did not they were visited by their unon reps. Once again they were "encouraged," most forcibly to participate. I knew a few who were Republican but gave any way in order to avoid ostracism by their rabid dem colleagues.

Aw come on, fellow posters. Why all the cynicism?

The words written by NEA President Bob Chase certainly sound sincere to me. Will you not concede that the attack of 9/11 served to knock some sense into a lot of heads?

Granted there are undoubtedly many among us who will never give up their ultimate agenda, but then there's nothing like a severe bolt of reality to cause many others to pause and question that which is really important when a nation is threatened en masse.

We should welcome any and all who finally recognize we are stronger as "one" than as "many".

The teacher union president officially supports GW in this war on terrorism [even though I myself have never seen nor heard this supportive position mentioned to date in any mainstream media].

Summer, I have not seen this either, but a liberal friend at work is confused and angry that this attack has forced him to re-examine his principles and join with conservatives in supporting this president and war. It is interesting to watch as he twists and turns to spin any scrap of data that he can find to cling to the idea that multiculturalism, gun control, open borders, or Clinton have actually been good for the country.

I hope the present leads to a future where the above "issues" continue to decline until they are finally recognized for the frauds that they are. If the teacher's union president recognizes even part of this perhaps the anti-american sentiment in our educational institutions can also be overturned.

PS, I had another class to teach, (as part of my job) Its was great. Keep up the good work.

With this in mind, I am passing along this packet of source materials that I hope you will find useful - and inspiring. Included are America's founding documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights.

Holy yaktibay! I almost dropped my kids Halloween candy when I got to this part.

Noooo I'm not searching for the good candy while they're at school. What? Why do I have it? ... ummm ... I gotta go now.

"May God give you wisdom and strength, Mr. President, and may God bless our great nation."

The president of the NEA used the "G-word" (twice) in his letter to President Bush? That's clearly a violation of the separation of church and state. I'm callin' the ACLU!

Have you ever entertained the thought that aliens may have taken over Bob Chase's body?

This support of Bush is just too far-fetched! ;^)

Hi Summer,
If they really want to get my attention, they can begin by rebuking the multitude of socialist-minded teachers that are corrupting the political, religious and moral values of the Republic. This letter is a start (and a shock!) but they have a long way to go in my book.

Anti-Americanism started with the academia in this country and must come to an end by them. Communist-socialist values still run strong amongst educators and these values and ideals are contrary and intolerant of all that America is and stands for.

What say you?

Maybe the union should give the money they extort from members that goes to gay rights, fisting, supporting RATS, etc --- and give it to the Pentagon to build more bombs.

There was a time, many years ago, when the NEA was truly an organization dedicated to the professional development of teachers, a worthy goal that benefitted the children and families of America.

I have a copy of a little booklet published and distributed nationwide by the NEA back in that faraway time to be used for character development in the classrooms. It contained verses from the Bible.

That was then, and now is now.

Since the organization was highjacked by the Union/Vast Democratic Left Wing, however, its millions of dollars in compulsory union dues have been devoted to other, less worthy goals. To any who doubt that, I would urge a review of its published legislative agendas for the past 25 years.

None but the most naive can believe that a mailing from Chase at a time when Americans are on high alert for those who would subvert American liberty (including our own establishment institutions) is a hopeful sign. Politically, it may mean that other tactics will be used, but its Alinsky mode of operating by intimidation and raw coercive power is, at this point, institutionalized.

When it gives up coercively taking dues money from teachers, opposing every single measure that would improve learning performance of children, and fights for the benefit of America's children instead of job preservation of incompetents, then I will be hopeful.
