The way I figure it, you ought to be able to get there in about 30 light years. He is definitely out there, but this sentence makes no sense. He's talking about time measurement, but uses distance measurement.
Oops, wrong! Light years IS a measure of distance, the distance light travels in one year (you can look it up!).
