Dan is getting increasingly strange or he just needs lessons from Bubba Clinton on how to run a good scam.

Actually, Dan is from earth. He is, however, only two generations up from an ameba.

In a year of odd behavior, Rather's post-Sept. 11 comportment has called his planetary origins into greater question than ever.

More importantly, what planet has the author of this piece been on that he has failed to noticed Captain Dan's oddities until just this year? I say to him, "courage"...

This strikes me as more of a hit piece on patriotism, under the pretense of critiquing Dan's performance as a journalist.

Granted, he couldn't have picked an easier target, but I'd sooner listen to Dan Rather reciting verses from patriotic songs than this guy's elitist critique.

The way I figure it, you ought to be able to get there in about 30 light years.

He is definitely out there, but this sentence makes no sense. He's talking about time measurement, but uses distance measurement.

Great piece from Eric Burns...Fox NewsWatch is the only press critique show on TV that's actually worth watching. Burns strikes me as a liberal, but he seems sincerely interested in objectivity, fairness and accuracy in reporting, principles that most journalists abandoned years ago. Better still, he has a panel that actually has opinions, not the recycled twaddle/mainstream media speak you find on CNN's reliable sources.

Burns is spot-on regarding Gunga Dan. Rather lost it about the time of the "Kenneth, what's the frequency" incident about 15 years ago--the same incident that was lampooned in a classic rock song (REM perhaps?). Then, in another act of incomprehensible lunacy, Rather appeared on David Letterman one night to sing the song along with the band. I remember a close-up shot during a clip of that performance; one of the guys in the band had a look on his face that seemed to say: "we're making this guy (Rather) look like an a--, and he's helping us.

Rather needs to drop the zoom juice and get some Prozac.

BTW, if you know anyone working at Ground Zero, be sure and e-mail them a copy of this article. Let our heroes know that while they were engaged in their valiant, Dan Rather was doing the real heavy lifting, holding the nation together through zoom juice and 16-hour marathons on the air. Then, the next time Dan shows up in lower Manhattan, perhaps one of the fire fighters, cops, or construction workers will punch him in the face.

One more thing: if you'll remember, CBS had Russ Mitchell on the air with Rather for much of the day on 11 September. CNN, ABC, and NBC took no such precautions with their main anchors. Could it be that CBS feared the effects of too much zoom juice, and had Mitchell (a superb, level-headed talent) standing by, in case Dan lost it on the air?

Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings have proven themselves excellent leaders of the respective news divisions of NBC and ABC.

What planet is this author from?

HEY! I usually watch Fox, but I like watching CBS Evening News...I'd much rather Dan's eccentricities than Jenning's and Brokaw's arrogance. ADMIT IT. Dan can be quite interesting. :-)

I think that Dan my be in for some sort of emotional or mental collaspe. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something like that down the road. There have been just too many odd things from and about him lately. Another thing he did was boldly claim that "Bill Clinton is an honest man", in spite of all his lies. Even staunch Clinton supporters have not come out making such ludicrous statements.

Dan the false prophet who found out he was prophecising on the wrong planet and to the wrong people he was originaly asked to talk to. It's got to be crushing to find that you have been wishing good luck to a coconut tree for all your life indeed.

I was looking forward to reading this article.....but I couldn't go any farther than this:"Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings have proven themselves excellent leaders of the respective news divisions of NBC and ABC."

Great piece. However, if you want news for adults, I recommend catching the evening feeds from both ITN and BBC World. Do it for a week and I promise you will never feel the urge to look in on Brokaw, Jennings or Rather. In fact, if you do go back after a couple of weeks, you will not be able to handle the glitzy format of NBCABCCBS.

Dan should have learned from Bubba, during those few moments that Dan's lips were puckered against Clinton's butt, how to bite the lower lip, go from laughter to tears in one step when he spots the camera, and taking credit for things he had nothing to do with......Dan didn't need any help from Bubba on lying with a straight face.
