Joe Everyman is thinking in the old paradigm. America is not at war to him. Americans are not about to be gassed with sarin or powdered with anthrax or diseased with chicken pox. Upholding the supposed "right" of terrorists to walk freely among us and to sneer at our nation, our people, our leaders, and our institutions is more important to ideologues than the right of Americans to their life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
