The sad part is if people do boycott, the ones that will hurt the most are the innocent businesses that don't make public policy," Lambert said. "It would once again be punishment inflicted on innocent bystanders."

Well, maybe the "innocent businesses that don't make public policy" will work to see to it that these socialist city council-critters are removed from the council... At some point the people who vote these vermin into office have to take a bite out of the S**T SANDWICH that they made!

Oh, come on. These people elected Barbara Lee, Jerry Brown and Ron Dellums. Anyone who lives in or owns a business in Berkley does so knowing exactly what the communiy sentiment is and I'm positive they all supported the boycotts of the Boy Scouts and various Southern states flying Confederate flags.

I think that Clif Bars and Luna Bars are there along with Fantasy Entertainment (that's Saul Zaentz' company,'English Patient', et al) um..., the Claremont Hotel and Spa, the Berkeley Marina (remember the Sea Scouts whom they kicked out), all the merchants on Fourth Street, I think the Nature Company has their HQ there, um..., Alice Water's restaurant Chez Panisse, can't think of anymore. I sure someone else can come up with a better list.

I guess I really have to wonder why anybody with even an inkling of an understanding of economics would locate a business in Berkeley. A socialist environment is not synonomous with a good business climate.

Actually, I was referring to products or services that can be bought at any grocery stores, computer store, Wal-Mart, etc. I'm in Tennessee, and I can't really actively boycott local businesses there. But if any Berkeley made products are on the shelves at the grocery store or in my local computer store and etc, I'd like to know what major companies are in Berkeley so I can actively avoid any Berkeley-made products at the store and pass the word around the Memphis and Nashville areas.

Well, even *I* supported boycotts of places flying the Confederate flag (that's for another thread). But, here's the kicker -- Berkeleyites will boycott ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. And now they're complaining that their getting their 'preferred remedy' directed right at them.

I think that the energy bar companies retail in TN, Clif Bars and Luna Bars. The Nature Company is nationwide, stores in malls and a mail order catalog. Peachpit Press - software, Nolo Press - do-it-yourself legal books used to be there I think it still is.

I'd bet those "kids" are voting via absentee ballot in their hometown elections too.

I'm not convinced it's just the students. I have many relatives of all ages (none students) who are so "open-minded" that their brains are falling out. They all vote lib/dem/socialist.

I wish I lived close to Berkeley just so I could boycott them. LOL!

"The sad part is if people do boycott, the ones that will hurt the most are the innocent businesses that don't make public policy," Lambert said. "It would once again be punishment inflicted on innocent bystanders."

That is such a crock. They voted them in. And now they've reaped what they've sown. This is a Representative Republic. The people on the city council represent the people of Berkely and their beliefs. If they don't, then next time they're up for election then they should VOTE THEM OUT! Until then, they shouldn't be bitching and crying about the government that THEY WANTED. I hope the boycott continues and that Berkely's driven into Third World-like destitution. They deserve it.

They hate capitalism anyway. Maybe they can just form a commune and share everything. Utopia for them.

I'll check those out. Meanwhile, here is a list of businesses listed with the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce. Not all are BASED in Berkeley, but I'm sure there are some on that list that ARE based in Berkeley.

So the city council is using these businesses as human shields to protect themselves from responsibility for their actions?

Lambert said city officials have been discussing ways to counteract the effects of a boycott.

Betcha anything that one of the ways will be to request federal funds!
