Obviously not. Some people I've encountered locally however, seem to have the impression that we will and everything will be the way it was before.

I know of a lot of people that think that same way. The stupidity of it is mindboggling.

Actually, even "before" things weren't like "the way it was before". That is, nothing has really changed at all, only perceptions have. There has *always* been terrorism, and terrorist acts against Americans. We can't turn the clock back to a time when there weren't, because there never was such a time.

I'm reminded of Yogi Berra's comment: "Things are more like they are now than they have ever been before".

The only way I can think of to achieve that, even theoretically, is to breed out the mentality that supports terrorism. That takes a lot of psychological effort, suppression of the impulse in the old folks, waiting for them to die out and new kids to take their place without the defective culture they have now.

Either that, or kill every damn one of them.

Or maybe we'll get lucky, and whatever God might exist up there will make an appearance to say "Knock it off, dammit!" Unless God is some kind of sadistic nut, I would expect that to happen if things really escalate. Religious freaks, please don't use that thought as an excuse to hijack this thread, please.
