They'll plead temporary insanity.

Because this is in the Aurora, Ill. area, these fine young ladies may well have been participating in a gang-initiation activity. It runs the gamit from shooting someone, to shoplifting, to a drive-by...

"Failure is not an option at K. D. Waldo " Then what are the options? "You want fries or acid with that coffee?"

Your point is not at all far-fetched. A school that will expel a student for merely drawing a picture of a gun, would surely waste no time drawing and quartering a teacher who left two teeny boppers alone in a room with concentrated HCL. Who can doubt that today's public schools are breeding grounds for homicidal maniacs?

I spent a few moments at the school's website, and could not find a photo of any student or staff.
Is it safe to say it is a CoreDemocrat (tm) neighborhood?

With the education 'standards' of today, the girls probably thought giving the teacher an 'acid' trip might be fun to watch.
Assuming they know the difference between MTV 'acid' and chemical 'acid' would be expecting too much.

"...may well have been participating in a gang-initiation activity."From the webpage of one of KD Waldo's teachers --
"I dealt with six different street gangs within the community and schools. I've seen school violence up close and personally. For example, I've been under tables due to gunfire among other experiences."

Felony Battery? No, it was Duracell Battery.

Someone put acid in my principle's coffee when I was in high school... only it wasn't HCL.. He noticed 2 squares of paper in the bottom of his cup and couldn't figure out why he started feeling weird... I heard about this happening about 20 years ago to an elderly woman teacher. I was pretty much an acid freak at the time (if you have never done acid, you have no idea what a heinous crime this is) but even I was enraged by the little punks and hoped they would have the book thrown at them. I don't know what happened to them, but I hope it was bad.

" ... after all, anyone who would do such a thing MUST be mentally unstable. They need counseling, not punishment."

Not overwhelmingly Democratic, by urban standards anyway.

Battery acid. Get it?Got it. Nice word play, but battery acid is sulfuric acid.

As a retired HS Science teacher, I can surmise that this teacher may be overly conscienous about academic standards and the girls may not like having same.

I love acid, It's rich and chocolaty,
Mommy put it in my milk to try and poison me,
But I fooled Mommy,
I put it in her tea.
Now there's no more Mommy, to try and poison me.
