It didnt take long for local peace advocates to criticize the U.S. led air attacks against Osama bin Ladens training camps in Afghanistan. They say that the bombing will only increase hatred toward the United States and that the perpetrators of the Sept. 11 attacks should be brought to justice under the rule of law.
"It breaks my heart to see my country inflicting pain on another county, knowing it will only cause more hatred for the U.S. in the rest of the world and make it easier for extremists to recruit more terrorists," said Mark Haim, director of Mid-Missouri Peaceworks.
"We have to operate under the rule of law," he said. "We should seek to bring all perpetrators under the justice of law."
Mid-Missouri Peaceworks and the St. Francis Community, together with Mid-Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation, Mid-Missouri Veterans for Peace, the Columbia Interfaith Peace Alliance and the Students for Progressive Action at the University of Missouri-Columbia, held a peace vigil today at noon in front of the Columbia Post Office on Walnut Street.
Haim said it was not another nation that attacked New York City and Washington on Sept. 11. "In my mind, we do not have the right to attack another country," he said.
Haim also said the U.S. should not be responding to a crime as if it were an act of war.
"Itll only have negative consequences," he said. "I think American people need to study the history of U.S. foreign policy in the Islamic world and understand why there is so much resentment to the U.S. in that part of the world."
Lana Jacobs of the St. Francis Community agreed.
"Why do the people" in some parts of the world "hate us? Maybe we have blood our hands," Jacobs said.
"U.S. foreign policy is the policy of stock market corporations in the United States," she said. "Its not because were nice people. Its because we want their resources and their land."
"Its wrong to bomb and kill people," Jacobs said. "Weve been bombing Iraq for 10 years. We starved the children in Iraq. We went after civilians."

(If I write a letter-to-the-editor calling them idiots and pointing out why they are idiots, will they print it? I guess I'll find out)
Undoubtedly, we need to take on the terrorists when and where we find them. The question is, did we? We'll only know if they attack us again. Then the cycle renews.
Any way you cut it, this is not a good thing.
Flying two planes into the WTC, one plane into the Pentagon, and one plane in PA... not to mention the many attacks that were thwarted due to grounding all planes, with 6,000 dead, isn't war?
I think these idiots need to get a grip on realty, what those terrorists did was not a crime, it was an act of war, and we responded as such. If he wants to love them so much tell him to go to Afghanistan and grab his ankles.
Those people are so lazy, so brain dead, that they cannot even suffer to live with a bad image, of all things! an inconsequencial virtual attribute of subjectivity.
This is the definition of insanity: being unable to cope with imagined difficulties.
The welfare mentality of helpless peace nicks who want others to defend their image in the world by not doing jobs that are sad but mandatory to keep our freedoms is beyond comprehension. No wonder their mantra is make love not war. Those people are so shallow and so paralized by image, that the only thing they can think of doing that will burden them the least is to make love while waiting for death.
America has money welfare recipients, has businesses that want to rely on Arab welfare protection to keep the global business going which then gets them flattened at the WTC, and finaly has loser liberal "elites" who are only good at making other PC bastards to think for themselves, because they are too lazy to think, prefering others to do the thinking for them - communists and Bin Laden killers doing the thinking for them.
I suggest a big therapy for America.
Go for it. I just sent one off to my local paper a few minutes ago.
So why does he hang out with people who think the US "deserved" to be attacked?
1) Do you believe that there is every such a thing as a "just war," World War II, for example?
2) Have you ever heard of the Barbary Pirates? (If they didn't know their history on this, I'd edecate them, real quick.) The Barbary Pirates generally captured Americans and their ships, rather than sink the ships and kill the crew. They then sold the ships and crews back to the US.
The Pirates were pussycats next to the modern terrorists. Yet we went to war with the Pirates and chased them pillar to post until we shut them down. It was a real war -- in all the history books.
I find that most of these peaceniks are dumb as a post when it comes to the history of the world. With the effective use of facts they can be reduced to sputtering fools. I'd like to have a crack at that.

I say we start to take up a collection to fly Mr. Haim to Kabul so that he can demand that Bin Laden take the peaceful path from now on. Isn't Bin Laden the one who must break the cycle of violence at this point since we have retaliated?
They just hate the United States and will do everything they can to destroy this country.
Their leaders are the same WTO demonstrators who brought violence and bloodshed to the streets of Seattle. Some "peace."
