My dad was there. My mom has always resented the fact that no one appreciates the sacrifices the men in the Aleutians made. I don't think it ever bothered my dad, though. He was always very proud of his service. He didn't talk much about the fighting, preferring to reminisce about beauty of Alaska, his sled dogs, his loan sharking, his Canadian friends, the funny Russians, and the airplanes. We lost Dad just before Christmas, so he cant receive your salute--but it sure means a lot to me.

Please accept my condolances.
I've noticed that a lot of the Vets prefer to dwell on the "good memories" of their service.

God Bless your dad Samwise. And pass along to your mom there are many of us who haven't forgotten. He got the salute alright, he's in our hearts. Take care and God Bless.

Thank you for telling us about your dad and for giving SAMWolf the idea for this wonderful thread and assisting him with the research. I wish your dad was able to see it along with your mom.
