Female Controllere Tactical A
Vanity

Posted on 08/10/2020 4:13:49 PM PDT by pfflier

Yesterday a group of us discussed our prior military experiences, we had never met before and it was informal employment seminar for my business. I exclusively hire vets and being one, I know we are all capable of embellishing our careers with war stories.

Amazingly, not one guy claimed to be a SEAL or Green Beret but, one woman in the group claimed that she was a former USAF Enlisted Tactical Air Controller.

It just didn't smell right and I asked about her training. She said Keesler AFB.

She couldn't "find" her DD 214. I told her I could go to the military records center and get a copy of it for her. She played the "hurt card" then the implied EEO complaint IMO because of her looks and gender. She didn't volunteer much after that but the guys in the group kept on buying the story. None of them were former USAF, mostly former Navy.

Something isn't right with that story I think.

If my memory is correct, ATC training is at Keesler AFB. The training for TACP is at Lackland, Fort Benning, Hurlburt Field or Nellis and Fairchild.

She is not the right physical stature, very slight and not bulked up like you would expect for all the physical training involved. She also claims to be 25 YO and has been discharged last year after 7 years active duty. I don't even think that AFSC was open to women in 2012.

Does any freeper know of women who have passed the ETAC training program for the USAF to match her claim? I don't want someone to work for me who is a major BSer. But, if she did do it, I want someone with that kind of drive and ambition.

Shouldn’t a lack of DD214 be disqualifier enough? Full disclosure: I’m NOT former military. Just curious if that’s an acceptable excuse.

Not being able to find their DD-214 is reason enough to be suspicious.

That is a big red flag for sure. This was pretty informal. It was more like an open house and I wouldn't expect anyone to have documentation with them.

The bottom line though is, you are right.

BTW I spell checked everything but the title. It should read Female Enlisted Tactical Air Controller?

Reminds of this:

“Kerry’s paperwork doesn’t pass the smell test. The few records so far released by his campaign identify FOUR “honorable” discharge dates (every other military member I know, myself included, received one). Kerry’s released documentation notes discharges of January 3, 1970, February 16, 1978, July 13, 1978, and, most peculiarly, March 12, 2001. He has as many discharge dates as months he spent in Vietnam. In my twenty years in the Air Force and through the thousands of people I came to know and serve with, I have never heard of anyone in the military having more than one DD 214 with one discharge date. Kerry, according to his own campaign, has at least four.

...

“On February 18, 1966, Kerry obligated himself to a six-year commitment to the Navy, and to the tenets of the military judicial system, with an expiration date of July 1, 1972. On January 3, 1970, Kerry asked for, and was granted, an early transfer from his active duty service to the Naval Reserve. As a reservist, he was still under oath as a commissioned officer and subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He still carried a military ID card and was still a member of the U.S. armed forces. Kerry’s service commitment came to an end, as scheduled, in July, 1972. As such, a DD Form 214 with a discharge status was due.

“Kerry’s “honorable” discharge, though, doesn’t come until February 16, 1978. Why? Possibly because President Jimmy Carter, through Proclamation 4483, granted a full and complete pardon to all military personnel who committed offenses and violations of the Military Selective Service Act during the Vietnam War. He pardoned deserters, draft dodgers and those who went absent without leave (AWOL).

...

“Finally, and most bizarre of all of Kerry’s military records so far released is a DD 215, “Correction to DD Form 214,” initiated for John Forbes Kerry on March 12, 2001. Among other things, the new form changes Kerry’s official US Navy separation date to March 1, 1970! As noted earlier, he wasn’t eligible for discharge until July, 1972, and was so. Why, then, the new document in 2001? Why, 29 years later, is there the need to correct or change the record?”

“because of her looks and gender. She didn’t volunteer much after that but the guys in the group kept on buying the story. None of them were former USAF, mostly former Navy”.

Methinks, if she is a fine-looking young woman it’s not that they buy her story because they buy her story. It’s because they want her to be hired for the opportunity to try to hook up with her.
Never underestimate the ability of men to overlook quite a bit for a good looking woman.

If she is a demonstrated liar, not just “embellisher”, but flat out liar, then you do NOT want her as an employee.

Yes it is. The candidate is an officer not enlisted though. But, it can happen at least since 2017.

Any inactive reserve involved in her discharge? I didn’t get my DD-214 until that was done.

My son was a JTAC. He was trained at Lackland (at least for Basic). Several other bases for additional TACP training. To my knowledge, there were no females in his unit at his permanent duty station.

1966 we had a combat controller in our ATC class at Kessler and he already had his jump wings.

Not only do I have my DD 214 locked up nice and safe I also made sure to register it when I got down here. After I registered it, I made sure to log in several pages on what book and page it was logged into at the County Courthouse. Just in case anything happened to my hard copy, I wanted to make sure I had documented it’s existence.

Someone who cannot ‘find’ a DD 214 is not someone I would normally want to manage anything important.

Since it was mentioned, you’d be wise to make sure any veterans you interviewed or seriously considered for employment had access to their DD 214 or documented proof of their service. Don’t just do it to this one applicant or you’d get hit with a discrimination issue.

I read further on down (up?) the thread of Inactive Reserve...not sure when they get their DD 214. Still, even those folks would have documentation of their training.

Too many folks scam for jobs and then are absolute nightmares when hired. Ugh. :(
