In 1793 in Poland he participated in the failed defence of Poland against Russian invasion. With the invasion sucessful, resulting in the second partition of Poland, he fled to Germany, but returned in 1795 to lead a failed rebellion against Russian ruleAnd after the Third Partition, Poland disappeared from the map for more than a century, swallowed whole by Russia, Austria and Prussia.

Seems klike Poland has spent most of her history either fighting the Germans or Russians or occupied by the germans of Russians. Both sides always wanted Poland as a "controlled" buffer between each other.
