If it weren't for the Chinese intervention North Korea was finished. I always wondered if MacArthur hadn't pushed to the Yalu River, which the Chinese felt was a threat to them, if they would have come in?

Seems klike Poland has spent most of her history either fighting the Germans or Russians or occupied by the germans of Russians. Both sides always wanted Poland as a "controlled" buffer between each other.

IMHO a stupid decision on the part of the PEntagon to move the !0th Mountain Division from the Rockies to New York, but then NY senators have a lot more pull than the Western States. Unfortuantely, the soldiers are the pnes who pay, they don;'t get trained to fight in the conditions they're expected to fight in. Snow and high altitudes.

I got to crawl thru Sentimental Journey about ten years ago. What a blast.Me too!. Wife thought it was a waste of money. Shows what she knows. I'm still trying to convince her to pop the fee for a flight. Doubt if it will ever happen. Wonder if "Make a Wish" could help?

You make a good point. The Chinese didn't intervene until we were very far north and they may have had a concern that we would try to establish some kind of nationalist beachhead. I suppose the smart play would have been to take Pyongyang and neighborhood but not advance close to the Yalu and see if the North Koreans would just collapse.

Unfortunately, since the seventeenth century Poland has been surrounded by strong neighbors, but is cursed by no natural barriers to invasion, a strategic location and fertile soil, making it a tempting prize.

There wasn't much to North Korea near the Chinese border back then. Once we occupied the major cities there was no where for the NK's to go.

There wasn't much to North Korea near the Chinese border back then Yep. I wonder if the Chinese would have moved into the border area if we hadn't. I tend to think they really didn't want to fight us unless they felt they had to because they had just finished off the nationalists after a long and bloody war, which itself followed WWII.

I've aways thought the Chinese and North Korean Governments very paranoid, but I guess if your running a Communist dictatorship, it just comes with the job.
