“Thompson and Giuliani have the same position on homosexuals:” No, Rudy IS a homosexual.... He lived with them and he wears women’s underwear.

Laughable. You're really afraid Rudy will win the primary and the general election."

It’s amazing (not really) that folks can’t talk about what’s good in their candidate instead of lobbing bombs at other candidates and trying (unsuccessfully) to tear the down. Go Fred!

Wrong. Fred has never marched in a gay parade, nor has he ever sponsored one.

Keep misrepresenting Fred on the issues, and I’ll keep calling you on it. End result: Fred picks up new backers evey time.

Thanks!

Sorry dude, but if you think any thinking person is going to buy the “Fred Thompson is pro-choice” line after having seen his voting records, etc. during his entire time in the Senate, then you need to get your core processor repaired.

I've added your name to the FRed List. :)

There’s only one thing that could make me change my mind.

What would that be?

Archives of Rudolph W. Giuliani, 107th Mayor

Opening Remarks to the N.A.R.A.L. "Champions of Choice" Lunch

The Yale Club, Thursday, April 5th, 2001

As Delivered

Thank you very much for inviting me to say a few words of welcome. This event shows that people of different political parties and different political thinking can unite in support of choice. In doing so, we are upholding a distinguished tradition that began in our city starting with the work of Margaret Sanger and the movement for reproductive freedom that began in the early decades of the 20th century.

As a Republican who supports a woman's right to choose, it is particularly an honor to be here. And I would like to explain, just for one moment, why I believe being in favor of choice is consistent with the philosophy of the Republican Party. In fact, it might be more consistent with the philosophy of the Republican Party. Because the Republican Party stands for the idea that you have to restore more freedom of choice, more opportunity, more opportunity for people to make their own choices rather than the government dictating those choices. Republicans stand for lower taxation because we believe that people can make better choices with their money than the government will make for them, and that ultimately frees the economy and produces more political freedom. We believe that, yes, government is important, but that the private sector is actually more important in solving our problems.

So it is consistent with that philosophy to believe that in the most personal and difficult choices that a woman has to make with regard to a pregnancy, those choices should be made based on that person's conscience and that person's way of thinking and feeling. The government shouldn't dictate that choice by making it a crime or making it illegal.

I think that's actually a much more consistent position. Many Republicans support that position, but you don't hear that as often. For example, in a recent poll by American Viewpoint, 65 percent of Republicans supported changing the plank in the Republican platform that calls for a constitutional ban on abortion. That's 6.5 out of every 10 Republicans. And over 80 percent of Republicans believe that the decision with regard to an abortion should be made by a woman, her doctor, and her family rather than dictated by the government.

[Applause]

In any case, I just wanted you to know that many of my fellow Republicans stand with you on this issue. So I thank you, I thank NARAL for taking the lead in establishing freedom of choice for all of us, and as the Mayor of New York City, I thank you for being here in New York City.

Who is paying you to destroy the National Republican Party as you did the California Party with your love affair with Arnold Swartzengger.

Check Fred’s voting record. He voted pro life on every life issue.

It's actually even better than Fred's own supporters are advertising. I have a friend who did an analysis of Senator Thompson's pro-life voting record and he came up with twenty votes out of twenty that he voted right on. I was pleasantly surprised. Credit where credit is due. Having said that, I think Fred needs to be asked some very hard questions, and I hope to God he thinks real hard before he answers them.

I have come to the same conclusion, and therefore will never vote for Rudy.

This is the long term view that the "win now at all costs" crowd accuse us of not having.

If the Republican Party does not survive as a force for Conservative governance, and it's dangerously close to loosing it now, it will take decades to build a new conservative party. The country will have turned socialist before that can happen.

Nominating Rudy will be the end of the Republican party, and ultimately, the end of our Republic.

So what you're saying is, his actions (voting record) mean nothing. But YOUR opinion of his 13 year old comments PROVES he's pro abortion.

And YOUR solution to this is to nominate a 100% NARAL rated RINO over the 0% NARAL guy?

You have lost it!

“You’re really afraid Rudy will win the primary and the general election.”

No, He could win the primary with the current announced field, but I think he has ZERO chance of winning the general election. If he runs there will be a third choice (write in or third party or both) that will siphon off the social conservative vote.

The only chance we have is to make sure he doesn’t win the primary.

“You have lost it!”

Depends on his party affiliation.

Bob Beckel: “Fred Thompson is the Left’s worst nightmare”

From these silly, desparate posts trying to paint Thompson as “pro-abortion” like JulieAnnie, Fred’s also the RINOs’ worst nightmare.

“WALLACE: Would you like to overturn Roe. ... THOMPSON: You said lightning round, now. If you want ...”

In other words he was waffling, didn’t say a categorical “YES”.

Libertarians and Thompson believe Roe v. Wade was bad law. It's not law, it's judcial fiat. The court was performing an illegal legistative act and camoflaging it in legal goobley gook. Pnenumbras anyone? Give me a break.

Thompson is against the corruption of the law. If the American people want to make abortion legal...then they should do so in a straight forward democratic way.
