The shortage of priests is a symptom not a cause. Trying to cure the symptoms is futile. Projects like running commercials on MTV are doomed to failure. The only true solution is to address the underlying cause: a failure not just of vocations, but of holiness.

How can we return to living a life of grace? This means first of all having large families. You will never get any significant number of vocations from families of 2 - 3 children. Secondly it means living a life of traditional devotion. Daily family rosary. The traditional Catholic Mass. Offering our sufferings in reparation. Embracing mortification and humility.

Perhaps I skipped over it too quickly, but I didn't notice these things in the article. Praying for vocations won't work. But praying for forgiveness of our sins might.

Can't disagree with you here.

On a recent thread two FReepers posted the numbers of vocations coming from parishes with 24/7 Adoration.

The numbers were astounding!
