VATICAN, Oct 1, 02 (CWNews.com) -- According to informed sources at the Vatican, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints today approved the validity of a miracle attributed to the intercession of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The formal validation of that miracle would be announced in December, along with an official decree authorizing the beatification of the renowned nun.
The miracle that was reportedly recognized by teams of both doctors and theologians was the cure of an Indian woman, Monika Besra, from an abdominal tumor and tuberculosis. The miracle occurred on September 5, 1998-- exactly one year after the death of Mother Teresa. The young woman (who was not Christian) was near death when members of the Missionaries of Charity-- the order that Mother Teresa founded-- placed a medal of Mother Teresa on her. She experienced a complete and medically inexplicable cure.

Good going for a holy and wonderful woman whose almost absolute charity should inspire all people and all Catholics forever.

This is a spoof, right? This can't be serious.

Beatification of Mother Teresa was coming sooner rather than later.

This is a spoof, right? No. This is not a spoof or joke. Sainthood can only be accorded to a person to whom a miracle has been attributed. Where's the confusion?

Never a doubt in my mind that this devout woman of God would continue her work even after her departure from this world.
God bless her.

As a reminder for those not familiar with Catholic belief, the miracle is due to the power of God working through the individual, not due to the individual alone.

Thank you, Rambler for clarifying this point. What seems obvious to some of us is a mystery to others.

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer by doctors. So they went in and cut the lung out, and it turned out to be scar tissue from a bout of pnemonia. Was that a miracle or can doctor's be wrong.
Are there any other catholic saints, that had miracles attributed to them after they were dead? or is this a first? Serious question.

Most of them. I think it is a requirement that a the person has a miracle attributed to them after death.

Mother Theresa is already a saint.
saint n 1: one officially recognized as preemeinent for holiness 2: one of the spirits of the departed in heaven 3: a holy or godly person.
Mother Theresa fits all three definitions.
Why does she need to be beautified? Mother Theresa is already a very beautiful person in my mind.

Well the doctors said it was a miracle soooo. The boxer, Evander Holyfield had been diagnosed with a bad heart. He was "cured" (according to him) at a faith meeting by faith healer Benny Hinn.
Should the RCC make Benny Hinn a "saint"?

From what I understand too...they look at the miracles after their death...it says they are in Heaven...
