Isn't that something?! I never heard that! I do remember hearing mother say that when she was a kid,she was saved by her angel(maybe it was St.Michael).She was trying to cross and standing in the streets waiting for cars to go by when she came within inches of being hit.She said that she felt herself being lifted up and placed on the sidewalk! Does anybody remember her telling this incident?

Here is a link...from what I understand Cardinal Mahoney took her to the vatican and she stepped down from the board at EWTN. I remember somewhat the controversy...I sided with Mother Angelica. She took a harsh backlash from Cardinal Mahoney and some Catholic newspapers.

Mother Angelica had a certain Cardinal in Austria on her side who made matters very difficult for Cardinal Mahony. EWTN is a non-profit corporation so Cardinal Mahony and others in the American Church couldn't steal it away from Mother Angelica. Anyway, Mother said she'd blow the whole thing up before she would let them get their hands on it. Deacon Bill S. and everyone at EWTN is totally devoted to Mother's vision whether or not she has a title or position with the network.

I was personally delighted that EWTN refused to broadcast the "consecration" of the new 'cathedral' in Los Angeles.

Mother Angelica had a certain Cardinal in Austria...

I believe she is referring to:

Christoph Schönborn, O.P. directed the commission that produced the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Subsequently he was named Archbishop of Vienna and a Cardinal.

He also had been a big supporter of Fr. Fessio during the Campion College fiasco, a College that the good Cardinal strongly endorses!

Well, actually I don't think EWTN was asked. I went to EWTN's site looking in the Q/A archives because I remember somebody wrote in asking this question - I couldn't find it. The response was EWTN was not asked to do so.

Such delicatesse and restraint. Of course, if it had been the consecration of a new cathedral in Lincoln, Nebraska, the good folks at EWTN would be beating down the door to broadcast that -- just like they did with Archbishop Dolan's liturgy in Milwaukee.

"I like the story when she and others went looking for St. Michael's cave in Italy; about the angel walking out the back of the car while the car was still in fast motion after it had passed them.

What a fantastic experience! Michael Brown is considering conducting a pilgrimage to St. Michael's cave. Here is a picture.

Thanks, IGNATIUS. The devotion of Eastern Christians to St. Michael is truly wonderful. Beautiful in song, and beautiful in art.

Lady in Blue, that's a great story. Who is Fr. William Wagner? And why does his name sound so familiar to me - was he ever in NYC?
