US Cardinal soon to be outed as homosexual...Which one?
O'Reilly, NY Post, The Diocese Report, others... ^

Posted on 05/20/2002 7:49:43 PM PDT by Polycarp

On Fox tonight O'Reilly said a cardinal is about to be outed as an active homosexual. Rumor has it Bishop Bruskiwiecz sent a letter telling this Cardinal to "resign, or else..."

NY POST: WHICH American cardinal recently disclosed to insiders a confidential letter he received from a bishop urging the cardinal to resign for the good of the church? The cardinal is being urged to quit before his much-gossiped-about homosexual indiscretions are uncovered by the media . . . WHICH ranking priest of a major diocese predicted over a boozy dinner the other night that if the media outs this particular cardinal, "then the dominoes will really start to fall"?

Well, that would be disappointing, as McCarrick seemed to be the point man on the trip to Rome.
And as I recall, McCarrick's parting words to the press were something to the effect that the scandal was a media invention.

They'll all go together when they go.

Remember that old Father Guido Sarducci act on Saturday Night Live?

I liked it better when that clown showed-up in St. Peter's Square dressed as a priest and they arrested him.

The worst will be when it is revealed that a bishop/archbishop has been blackmailed.

Okay. You've got to give us a hint. There are over 300 bishops.

They arrested a guy for wearing a robe and collar?

Breaking them into "Tridentines" and "Novus Ordos" wouldn't seem to foster community worship.
Reason numero uno for making the Tridentine Rite a canonically discrete rite. There's no reason that orthodox Catholics, lay or clery, should be put in the position of fighting over rites.

It won't be Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua, the magnificent and devout archbishop of Philadelphia. (If it turns out to be him, I give Sinkspur permission to remind me of this at any and all times.)

Cardinal Bevilacqua has done good work in Philadelphia and, from what I've heard, was one of the few bishops who took the mid-1980s reports about homosexuals in the seminaries seriously.

Will The Empire Strike Back?

This from today's Page Six in NY Post:

Just asking

WHICH jaunty cleric, who's been all over TV lately criticizing the Catholic bishops, should know his enemies are aware of the convenient living arrangement he has with his woman friend? Since they aren't bound to silence by the seal of the confessional, they might start talking . .

Sub-plot developing: who is the studly hetero priest?

It is a crime in the State of Vatican City to impersonate a priest, that is why he was arrested.

I got on earful on Bruskewitz from a classmate of mine, an official at the seminary here in Dallas. He's pulling all his guys out of the college seminary...

Come on, Sinky. We know that you have it in for all the orthodox, traditionalist, Tridentine elements within the Church, but Bruskewitz is one of the good guys. Indeed one of the best guys. Attempting to scandalize him with such petulant little criticisms reflects badly on you, IMO. You never seem to have anything positive to say about any conservative prelate. Why is that?

On this thread, we're talking about a Prince of the Church living an active homosexual lifestyle. This is a scandal of mind-blowing proportions. And you bring up niggling little pot-shots at Bishop Bruskewtiz? Come on!

Social conservatives going pro-homosexual? Maybe this is what God has in mind in all this.

Not bloody likely. SSAD worship and Christianity do not mix and never will.

Did you happen to notice that the priest he had on as a guest made the following statement on the subject: "There's nothing wrong with being homosexual" [?]

I saw THAT!!!! What the heck is that about?

Its time for lay Catholics to take off the gloves and use whatever methods are available to excise this cancer. Nothing we do can be any more scandalous than what our "shepherds" have done.

Amen, Polycarp.

The good Bishop of Lincoln, NE has TWO new seminaries in his Diocese, the new Diocesan one, opened ~ 3 years ago,Saint Gregory the Great Seminary, (http://www.stgregoryseminary.edu/) as well as the new FSSP Seminary, Our Lady of Guadalupe. No other Bishop has opened 2 seminaries in his diocese in the past 5 years.

Worth repeating. For all of Sinkspur's unwarranted criticism, whatever Bishop Bruskewitz is doing, the Holy Spirit is blessing. Would that we had about 15-20 more bishops like him in this country! Would that he gets the red hat soon. He deserves it.

We should make it a crime in the US to impersonate a Cardinal, because that is exactly what Law, Mahony, Keeler, Egan, etc. are doing -- pretending to be good Catholic prelates, while condoning, enabling, and abetting the rape of little boys.

but you need to distinguish between the
biblically-based teachings of the Church, and the certain individuals
within the church who have turned against the teachings.

Well, biblically-based is one thing.  Extra-biblical interpretations,
such as 'Mary must have been assumed into Heaven because
we can't find a body,' and a myriad of other nuances particular
to the RCC come down through the same heirarchy that now
places itself outside the laws of civil society.  The individuals
are part of the ongoing creation of theology.  It cannot help
but have an effect on the teachings themselves.  I do not
believe they can be separated and retain Catholicism.

After the big hoohaw at University of San Francisco (spring semester 2001}when father Privette made some high handed, arrogant and worldly manipulations that effectively deconstructed the Ignatius Institute,a haven of orthodoxy on that csmpus, the University of Dallas made some similar moves.I think it involved the Department of Theology which to that point had presented Catholic Truth as core.

I think the President called the changes an attempt to integrate theology into the greater university's mission,or some such code talk that means water down the Church teachings and serve worldly gruel. I believe that most of the faculty left for another Catholic University. I read about all this in several different places and there was a lot of anger as conservative, orthodox Catholics saw another bastion fall prey to the "progressives".

I was shocked that people who live in the area didn't bring this information forward in this present discussion. Surely they must have known. And the poor faculty member at the seminary who thinks Bishop Bruskewitz pulled out his seminarians because he wanted them exposed to the Tridentine Mass. While I am sure that was a factor,I bet if he searched he would learn that much more is involved.IMHO.
